William J. Britt of Key West, Florida Charged with Child Pornography and Illegal Firearm Possession

William J. Britt of Key West, Florida has been hit with criminal charges for allegedly possessing videos depicting children in sexual situations, a press release from the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida indicates. Britt, 55, was also found with at least one illegal firearm, the press release states. He is charged with possession of material involving the sexual exploitation of minors and the unlawful possession of a firearm. It is unclear whether he had been booked into police custody and, if so, if he has qualified for bail. It is also not yet known whether he has hired an attorney.

Reports say a criminal complaint accusing Britt of possessing illicit porn and an illegal firearm was filed against him on December 6, 2012. According to reports, police conducted a raid of Britt’s home in Key West and seized a number of videos that depict children in sexual scenarios. It is unclear whether pornographic videos were on his computer or some other storage device. Police also seized a short-barreled shotgun from the home; Britt apparently did not have a license to own the weapon.

Reports say the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, the Miami FBI field office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives worked together in the joint investigation that led to the charges against Britt. If found guilty on the charges against him, Britt could face up to 10 years behind bars, a press release indicates.

In other news, Kendrick Lamont Elkins of Lake Worth, Florida was arrested Monday after he was accused of strangling his wife and placing a gun in her mouth following a marital spat, reports indicate. Elkins, 37, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, battery and false imprisonment, and domestic battery by strangulation. He was later released on unspecified terms. It is unclear whether he hired legal representation.

Reports say the alleged incident occurred sometime Monday afternoon at the couple’s residence in Palm Beach. Reports say the pair’s 11-month old baby and the victim’s 6-year-old daughter were home during the fight. According to reports, Elkins and his 36-year-old wife got into an argument when he accused her of cheating on him with a man she knew from work. At some point, the argument became physical and Elkins allegedly started choking the victim.

Reports say the violence did not end there. Elkins allegedly struck the woman in the head a number of times with his hand. At one point, he pulled the woman into the home’s bathroom, removed her clothes, and took images of her while she was nude, reports say. As they fight went on, Elkins reportedly placed the barrel of a handgun in the woman’s mouth and threatened to murder her.

Police responded to the scene around 6:00 that evening and placed Elkins under arrest. It is unclear who called police to the scene. It is similarly unknown whether the victim received medical attention following the alleged incident.
