William Anthony Raber, Tamarac, Florida Landlord, Arrested for Video Voyeurism

William Anthony Raber, Tamarac, Florida landlord, was arrested Friday after he allegedly planted a camera in a tenant’s bedroom and saved videos of her in various states of undress, news sources report. An investigation also allegedly revealed that Raber, 27, had downloaded child pornography. He was booked into the Paul Rein Detention Facility on 17 counts of child pornography and one felony count of video voyeurism; reports did not indicate whether he was granted bail bond. It is also not yet known whether he has hired a lawyer.

According to reports, the adult victim, whose name was not included in public reports, was a tenant in Raber and his wife’s home in the 6000 block of Northwest 68th Terrace. The victim may have known Raber’s wife (whose name is not available) through work; reports indicate that she had been the victim’s manager at some point. The victim reportedly paid $350 for rent, which included a bedroom, Internet, cable, and access to a kitchen and laundry room. She apparently moved in in April.

The victim was reportedly allowed to use Raber’s wife’s laptop. On August 7, the laptop failed to connect to the Internet, so the victim decided to use Raber’s desktop, sources say. The victim allegedly spotted a file called “Porn” on Raber’s PC and opened it. Inside the folder, the victim reportedly found four videos of her changing clothes or unclothed in her rented room. The victim said one of the videos depicted Raber “placing what she believes to be a camera in her room,” sources indicate. In addition to the videos of her, the victim saw child pornographic images and video, reports say.

The victim copied the offending media onto a flash drive and gave it to police, according to the press. Detectives examined the 42 files stored on the drive, one of which featured the description “15-year-old Japanese Lolita.” That video allegedly showed a young girl engaging in sexual activity with an older male.

Detectives subsequently attained a search warrant and raided Raber’s home Friday. During the raid, the detectives reportedly found a number of sexually inappropriate videos on Raber’s computer, including a lewd video featuring a girl around 12 to 13 years of age. In addition, the detectives found 15 nude images of three separate girls around the ages of 7 and 8.

During a police interview, Raber reportedly admitted to downloading the child pornography, sources say. Raber also said that he planted a small, black camera in the victim’s room so that he could record her, reports say. Raber was then arrested. There is no indication that he took the photos and videos of underage girls himself.

In a similar case from 2011, Davie resident Kenneth Ryals was sued after he rented out a room to a female tenant, press sources state. Ryals, an IRS agent, reportedly advertised the room on with the user name “Buttercup.” After renting the room, 27-year-old Miranda Goldston discovered a hidden camera inside the DVD/VCR in front of the bed. Ryals, 60, was sued by the victim. He was eventually ordered to pay her $476,000 in damages, reports say.
