U.S. Army Sergeant Alexis Kirk Torres was arrested on Monday for allegedly soliciting underage children to engage in a commercial sex act. Torres, 26, was caught in an FBI sting operation that purportedly led him to Davie in Broward County with candy, cash, lubricant and condoms that he intended to use on two young girls, aged 12 and 14.
Torres was not aware that the meeting he was going to was a sting operation and the man he was communicating with was actually an undercover federal agent. He is to remain in jail until a bond hearing is held to decide if he is eligible for bond. News sources did not specify an attorney for Torres.
According to the criminal complaint, Torres was ensnared by an undercover agent in January after replying to a Backpage.com sex ad. Sources say the ad was written in a style commonly used by federal agents to lure individuals seeking minors for sex.
The agent who lured Torres reported that Torres’ first email asked him whether he was “affiliated with law enforcement.” The agent allegedly replied saying he was not a law enforcement officer and that he only had “young ones” available for sexual activity.
Over the course of several emails, Torres and the FBI agent allegedly negotiated the cost as well as the type of sexual activities the young girls could provide. The two men reportedly planned to meet in January so that the undercover agent could “vet” Torres and verify that he wasn’t a cop, but Torres canceled the meeting, saying it was too rushed and he didn’t want his wife to be suspicious.
Torres purportedly continued to communicate with the agent and asked several questions, like whether the children were tested for STDs and if they were using contraception. The agent also reported that Torres asked him what it was like “to be with little girls.”
Torres allegedly renewed his interest in the girls in May; he sent the undercover agent an itinerary proving that he was traveling to Miami this month. They reportedly agreed on $500 for protected sex with the older girl and unprotected sex with the younger one.
Federal agents were able to link Torres to the email address he used to communicate with the undercover agent. They were also able to read his name on the picture of the flight itinerary he sent the undercover agent before their meeting.
The two men met in Davie on Monday to make arrangements. During their meeting, he was unknowingly recorded on audio and video discussing his plans. Torres allegedly said that he knew it was illegal, but he still wanted to have sex with the girls.
