Thomas Edler of Weston, Florida was arrested this past week for allegedly photographing a five-year-old boy naked, news sources report. Reports indicate there may be additional victims. Edler, 48, was booked into the Broward County Main Jail on three counts of production of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. He is currently being held without a set bail bond. The press did not say whether Edler had obtained a defense lawyer.
According to reports, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children obtained 20 nude and non-nude mixed pictures of the five-year-old victim from an online source in February. There is no indication that they boy was being sexually abused in any of the photos. Investigators named the set of images the “Dave series.” In one of the alleged images, the cameraman’s reflection can be seen in a mirror.
The investigation was eventually handed over to the Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. It was not immediately clear how detectives traced the photos to South Florida, but somehow officials discovered that the images were taken at Edler’s home in the 900 block of Shadyside Lane of Weston. Some of the images appear to have been taken in Edler’s backyard, sources say.
During their investigation, detectives first confronted Edler’s wife with several non-nude images from the “Dave series.” According to reports, Edler’s wife was able to identify the victim as one of her child’s friends. She reportedly told detectives that the victim had moved from South Florida in 2002.
Detectives then confronted Edler about the “Dave series.” Reports say Edler admitted to taking the images, but said they were taken “all in fun.” Edler reportedly told the detectives that he had uploaded the twenty images found in the “Dave series” to a cloud-based storage website; Edler was unable to say how anyone was able to get ahold of the images and denied sharing them.
As part of the investigation, Edler allegedly revealed additional photos of other naked children on his laptop. Reports say detectives obtained a search warrant and seized the Edler’s computer. A forensic examination of Edler’s computer found 100 pictured of nude girls and boys, sources say. The pictures had been taken from 1999 to 2009, mostly on a Kodak DC290, reports say. It is unclear whether they had all been taken by Edler or other suspects. The report suggests that while some of the children had visible genital areas in the photos, none were shown in sexual situations in the photos.
In other criminal news, Vonna Connors of Bradenton was arrested recently after she was accused of entering her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend’s home uninvited, reports say. Connors, 20, was booked into the Manatee County Jail on charges stemming from the incident. It is unclear whether she qualified for bail or hired legal representation.
According to reports, the incident occurred at around 4 p.m. in June. Connors allegedly knocked on the woman’s door and entered when no one answered. Two young boys were inside, apparently alone, sources indicate. Connors reportedly asked the boys if they had her PlayStation and they answered “no.” After that, Connors went into the backyard and kicked a scooter onto its side, reports say.
Sometime later, reports say Connors went to her ex’s mother’s home and “committed domestic battery,” the details of which are unclear.
