According to authorities, a 12-year-old girl who attends Nova Middle School was arrested Thursday after writing a note threatening to shoot up her school. Investigators said the student placed the note under the assistant principal’s office door.
Miami-Dade County teacher Wendell Alfredo Nibbs was arrested on November 28 for allegedly committing sexual battery on a student. Nibbs taught physical education at Brownsville Middle School. He was fired after his arrest.
Nibbs, 51, faces two counts of sexual battery on a familial child, which means he had custodial care of the child he allegedly battered. He was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and was denied bond. The press did not name an attorney for him.
Former Palmetto Senior High School teacher Jason Edward Meyers was arrested in February 2016 on a sexual battery charge involving one of his students. A lawsuit was filed this week in federal court on behalf of a student against the Miami-Dade School Board that claims the school district did nothing to stop Meyers’ behavior.
“As alleged, the School Board knew that Mr. Meyers posed a serious risk of sexual abuse against our community’s children. Yet it did virtually nothing to stop him,” Miami attorney Mark Schweikert told The Miami Herald. “Instead, the School Board merely relocated the risk posed by his predatory behavior from one school to another.”
