Former Boca Raton Community High School treasurer Lisa Rivera was arrested on Monday for allegedly stealing over $20,000 from the school. Rivera, 47, is also a Greenacres city councilwoman in her second term.

She was charged with grand theft, official misconduct, and organized scheme to defraud and released on $10,000 bond. It is unclear if she has hired an attorney.

Joseph Arena of Margate, Florida was arrested last week for allegedly using city-issued purchasing cards to buy expensive tools which he sold for cash. Arena, 57, is a former Fort Lauderdale public works supervisor.

He turned himself in on June 1 and faces several charges, including grand theft, giving false information, dealing in stolen property, official misconduct, and falsifying official documents. He allegedly stole items valued between $20,000 and $100,000. The exact amount he purportedly stole was not disclosed.

Broward sheriff’s jail deputy Oreth Smith of Plantation, Florida was arrested on March 28 for allegedly using a personal cellphone, which is considered contraband, for long periods of his work shift instead of conducting head counts, security checks, and other administrative duties.

Smith, 35, faces charges for introducing contraband into a jail and official misconduct after it was discovered he falsified inmate head count reports. He was released on bond the following day. The press did not list an attorney for Smith.

Florida Highway Patrol Trooper David Casillas was arrested on February 28 for allegedly helping his friend Jesus Del Valle hide a hit-and-run crash that severely injured gardener Yoel Montero. Casillas, 35, faces charges for official misconduct, filing a false insurance claim, and organized fraud.

According to the arrest report, the alleged hit-and-run crash occurred on June 30 last year. A SUV sideswiped a gardening crew that was working on 62nd Street in Miami Beach and severely injured Montero, who was working there at the time. He suffered a serious head injury and acutely damaged his right leg. Witnesses identified the SUV as a 2015 Range Rover.
