Coral Gables police officer Manny Rivero was arrested on August 16 for allegedly beating his wife. Rivero, 39, faces a domestic battery charge.

He was held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center overnight and was released on $2,500 bond. A judge ordered him to remain under house arrest and issued a restraining order to keep him away from his wife. The press did not say if he has acquired an attorney.

According to the arrest report, the alleged battery occurred on Wednesday at Rivero’s home. A neighbor reportedly saw Rivero grab his wife by the arm outside their home. The neighbor and two other witnesses told police that they heard her scream, “Call the police, he[‘s] hitting me, he always hits me,” before Rivero repeatedly struck her on the head, the report said.

Cape Coral Mayor Marni Sawicki confirmed on Monday that she was the victim of domestic abuse at Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach that led to the arrest of her ex-husband Kenneth Duane Retzer. The names of abuse victims are usually redacted in arrest reports.

Retzer was arrested and charged with domestic battery by strangulation. Jail records did not name an attorney for him.

Freddy Alberto Elias of Sunrise, Florida was arrested on January 8 for allegedly choking his girlfriend, branding her with fork, and attempting to “waterboard” her in the shower with a towel and water. Elias, 27, faces charges for attempted murder, false imprisonment, domestic battery, and aggravated battery. He is being held at Broward Main Jail without bond. New sources did not name an attorney for Elias.

According to the affidavit, Elias knocked at the back door of his girlfriend’s home at 3 a.m. on January 3. His girlfriend, whose name has not been released because she’s an alleged victim of domestic abuse, was reportedly with a male friend at the time. The friend left through the front door before Elias entered the home.

Evelyn Fernandez, a former lieutenant with the Miami-Dade, Florida police department, was arrested for burglary yesterday morning after allegedly she broke into the home of her ex-boyfriend, former Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez.

Fernandez is being charged with burglary and criminal mischief. News sources did not specify whether she is still in police custody or if she has acquired the services of a private attorney.
