Daniel-Kandler-169x300Mark Desimone of Delray Beach, David Remland of Boca Raton, and Daniel Kandler of Boca Raton, were arrested last week for allegedly bribing the owner of a rehab facility with over $150,000 to get his patients to undergo expensive drug screenings at their drug-testing laboratory.

Desimone, 61, Remland, 52, and Kandler, 41, all face charges for patient brokering. It is unclear whether Kandler is still booked, but Remland and Desimone were reportedly being held without bond as of last Thursday. News sources did not name attorneys for the three men.

Scott-Matesky-300x177Scott Matesky of Delray Beach, Florida died on Monday after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver last month, a family member told news sources.

According to the police report, Matesky, 39, was struck by a white Honda Civic as he was crossing West Atlantic Avenue near NW 10th Avenue on the morning of April 15.

Sources say he was waiting for a friend to pick him up and take him to a casino in Coconut Creek. It is unclear how long he lay on the roadway after the crash before he received help.

Lacy-Marie-Morris-296x300Lacy Marie Morris of Sugarloaf Key, Floida was arrested on Tuesday for her alleged involvement in a fatal DUI crash that led to the death of Delray Beach police officer Christine Braswell, 40, and seriously injured Bernenda Marc, 25.

Morris, 32, faces charges for DUI with bodily injury, DUI with property damage, DUI manslaughter, and possession of marijuana, Key West Police announced on Tuesday night. She was arrested in Broward County.

Daniel-Kandler-169x300Daniel Kandler, the CEO of Chapters Recovery Treatment Center in Delray Beach, Florida, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly bribing his employees so they would bring patients to his rehab center for treatment. Kandler, 41, reportedly paid four of his employees over $325,000. He is being charged with 93 counts of patient brokering. News sources did not name an attorney for Kandler.

According to arrest records, Kandler used the same marketers as James Kigar, the owner of Whole Life Recovery in Boynton Beach. Kandler was arrested on similar charges last October.

Philip-Varsam-240x300Philip Varsam of Delray Beach, Florida surrendered to police on Tuesday to face charges for an alleged hit-and-run crash that severely injured cyclist Alkiva Douglas of Fort Lauderdale. The crash reportedly occurred on New Year’s night and left Douglas with severe brain damage.

Varsam, 28, was arrested on suspicion of failing to remain at the scene of an accident involving a serious injury. He was transferred from Delray Beach to Broward Main Jail for a brief court appearance on Tuesday. His bond was set at $30,000 by Broward County Judge Michael Davis. The judge also ordered Varsam to surrender his passport.
