Tammy-Lynn-Hopkins-LysakTammy Lynn Hopkins Lysak of Deerfield Beach, Florida was arrested on September 27 for allegedly stealing more than $400,000 from her employer over a period of two years.

Lysak, 52, faces charges for criminal use of personal identification information, grand theft, and organized fraud. Court records show she has also violated the terms of her probation for a 2008 grand theft conviction in Palm Beach County. The press did not name an attorney for Lysak.

Jonathan-Schuler-169x300Jonathan Schuler, a West Palm Beach resident and day laborer at a Deerfield Beach construction site, was arrested on March 8 for allegedly attacking and killing his co-worker Arcenio Alvarez of Lake Worth. Schuler, 32, faces a premeditated murder charge. He was booked into a Broward jail. News sources did not name an attorney for him.

According to news sources, the attack occurred on Wednesday morning at a construction site at 700 W. Hillsboro Boulevard in Deerfield Beach. News reports are still unclear about what exactly happened. Investigators claim Schuler struck Alvarez, 32, with a crowbar twice over the head, but witnesses reportedly saw Alvarez get struck twice over the head with an ax.

Ervin and FeldmanCarl Ervin, former public works supervisor for Dania Beach, and Jami Moore, former superintendent of Deerfield Beach Parks, were arrested on Monday and face bribery charges. Investigators claim Ervin and Moore “sold out their ethics” in exchange for Walmart gift cards and other favors.

According to John Calabro, a detective from Broward Sheriff’s Office’s Public Corruption Unit, both men received gift cards from salesman Robert Feldman in exchange for large city business tenders. It is unclear if any of the accused have sought legal representation.

Shirley CotoShirley Coto of Deerfield Beach was arrested last Sunday for 22 criminal charges that include DUI, manslaughter, and child neglect. Coto, 40, allegedly drove a vehicle with four unrestrained children inside while impaired without a valid driver’s license. She got into a car accident that killed one of her passengers, six-year-old Ruby Meza.

Coto was booked into Broward Main Jail and had a brief court hearing on Monday where a Broward judge read all of her charges. Her hearing was rescheduled to an unspecified date to give her time to notify her attorney to attend. It is unclear if the judge set bail for Coto.
