Evelyn Fernandez, a former lieutenant with the Miami-Dade, Florida police department, was arrested for burglary yesterday morning after allegedly she broke into the home of her ex-boyfriend, former Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez.

Fernandez is being charged with burglary and criminal mischief. News sources did not specify whether she is still in police custody or if she has acquired the services of a private attorney.

Walter Adalberto Campos Cruz of Oakland Park, Florida has been arrested after allegedly breaking into a woman’s house and attempting to sexually assault her while she was sleeping. Cruz, 36, faces burglary and sexual assault charges. He had his first-appearance court session last Tuesday and the presiding judge ordered that he be held without bond. It is unclear if Cruz has acquired legal representation.

Alexis Ernesto Estrada, Alejandro Troche-Rodriguez, and Melvin Antonio Fuentes have been arrested and are facing multiple burglary charges after allegedly informing investigators that they “broke into more vehicles than they can remember.”

New sources say the three young men are currently being held by police and bond was set at $4,500 for Troche-Rodriguez, and $3,500 for both Fuentes and Estrada. It is unclear if any of the them has acquired legal representation.

Joel Hooten of Coral Springs, Florida surrendered himself to authorities earlier this week for his alleged involvement in a courthouse break-in. Hooten was charged with burglary and is being held in lieu of $15,000 bond. News reports did not specify a lawyer for Hooten.

Hooten, 35, turned himself in after Broward Sheriff’s Office released surveillance footage of the break-in on Monday. The surveillance video shows a one-handed man who looks like Hooten breaking into a courthouse on 1600 W. Hillsboro Boulevard last Sunday.
