American-Airlines-300x200Scott Becker of Miami, Florida is suing American Airlines for physical and psychological injuries he allegedly sustained during an emergency evacuation of a Boeing 767 that caught fire at O’Hare International Airport before its scheduled takeoff for Miami on October 28, 2016.

In a lawsuit filed on June 13 in Miami, Becker, 47, alleges the airline failed to ensure the jetliner was properly maintained and negligently failed “to provide proper assistance, supervision and instruction in the evacuation.” The lawsuit seeks more than $75,000 in damages, including legal fees for “personal and bodily injuries, both physical and psychological in nature;” pain and suffering; disability; medical bills; lost earnings; and past and future emotional distress.

ambulance-1005433_1920-300x199Wendell Shepherd, a Broward, Florida detention deputy, was arrested on Sunday after he allegedly ran over a parking lot security guard’s foot while searching for a lost cell phone. Shepherd, 43, was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery with great bodily harm. It is not clear whether he has been granted bail bond or enlisted the services of an attorney.

According to news reports, the incident occurred late on Sunday evening at Virginia Key Beach Park in Miami, Florida. A police officer reportedly witnessed the event. The name of the victim has not been released; it is not clear whether the victim or their family will be seeking damages. He reportedly suffered from a broken ankle.

car-crash-300x200Miami Public Schools bus driver Eletha D. Perry reportedly crashed a bus full of children into three parked vehicles while driving her regular route on April 17. No injuries were reported and no charges have been filed.

Perry, 55, received a citation for driving without a proper license and inattentive driving. The first citation will reportedly be withdrawn because her issue with a driver’s license has since been resolved.

According to the collision report, the crash occurred on East Central Avenue last Monday afternoon. Perry was reportedly traveling east in a 2013 Blue Bird school bus when she leaned over to adjust the radio.

Lidia TapanesLidia Tapanes of Miami, Florida, was one of 14 people on a boat that capsized after taking water in a canal near the edge of Biscayne Bay on Sunday. Tapanes, 80, was trapped under the water and didn’t have a pulse when rescue workers got her to safety. She was taken to North Shore Medical Center in “extremely critical” condition.

According to Miami Fire Rescue, the boat capsized near the corner of NE 87th Street and NE Bayshore Drive sometime after 5 p.m. on December 25. Witnesses saw the small boat get hit by a wave and flip over as it was steering towards an inlet. It was carrying a group of 14 teenagers and adults, sources say.

Miami Police Chief Rodolfo LlanesTraffic officer Jorge Sanchez of Miami, Florida was killed in a multi-vehicle accident yesterday that left two people seriously injured and sent a dozen others to the hospital. Sanchez, 53, was on his motorcycle when he was struck by an SUV on a left-turn lane, causing a domino effect that damaged five other vehicles and injured several people.

According to the police report, the accident took place at around 1:40 p.m. on the intersection of 137th Avenue and Southwest Eighth Street. Several vehicles were heavily damaged and Sanchez’s motorcycle was found destroyed almost beyond recognition four lanes from where the incident occurred.
