Samuel Oklesh, a retired Winter Haven, Florida chiropractor, was arrested Friday after he was accused of downloading several hundred child pornographic images and videos, news sources report. Oklesh, 67, was booked into the Indian River County Jail on 55 counts of possession of child pornography. Reports did not say whether he has qualified for bail bond. It is unclear whether he has retained legal representation.
According to reports, detectives with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office discovered that Oklesh had downloaded child pornography at his residence on Lake Region Boulevard in Winter Haven. It was not immediately known how detectives learned of the alleged crime, though it likely involved tracking Oklesh’s IP address activity. On December 21, 2012,the PCSO detectives obtained a search warrant and conducted a search. An onsite forensic scan of Oklesh’s computer was reportedly inconclusive, and detectives seized the device for further examination.
Sometime later, a full forensic scan of the computer produced approximately 500 images and videos depicting child pornography, reports say. The images and videos reportedly showed children ranging from infants to 10 years of age performing sexual acts on adults and other children. Some photos showed the children simply exposing themselves, sources say.
Police went to arrest Oklesh at his home in Winter Haven after discovering the pornography. When they arrived, they reportedly found that Oklesh and his ex-wife, who still live together, had secretly relocated. Police continued their investigation and discovered that Oklesh had another address in Indian River County. The PCSO teamed up with the Indian River Internet Crimes Against Children detectives and went to that address. There, they found and arrested Oklesh, sources say.
Reports did not say what means Oklesh used to obtain the files. In the Internet world, child pornography is often shared via peer-to-peer programs, chat or instant messaging services, or through hidden or masked websites.
Some people allegedly like to view children being abused in photos, while others prefer to do the abusing themselves. Phanes Louis of Lauderdale Lakes and Robert Watson of Pompano Beach were both arrested in unrelated cases after they were each accused of sexually battering a victim under the age of 12, reports say. Louis, 22, and Watson, 28, were each booked into the Broward County Main Jail on charges of sexual battery on a minor. Louis faces three additional counts of lewd or lascivious molestation. The defendants are being held without bail, and it is not known whether either has found a lawyer.
According to reports, Louis allegedly molested a nine-year-old girl multiple times between October 2011 and October 2012. The press did not signify a relationship between Louis and the victim but he apparently had access to her in her home. Reports say Louis came into a bathroom and fondled the victim privates and chest area during one incident. On another occasion, Louis allegedly fondled the girl’s backside and raped her in the shower. The victim told Louis she would report the attack to her mom, and Louis allegedly “told her to ‘shut up’ and that if she did, she would die,” reports say.
In the other case, Watson reportedly offered a 10-year-old victim and her brothers and sisters food. Watson allegedly sexually assaulted the girl on a couch after being let inside, reports say. A medical examination later confirmed that the child had been raped, reports say. Watson reportedly denied assaulting the victim.
