Peter Schwartz of Hollywood, Florida Arrested for Domestic Battery

Peter Schwartz of Hollywood, Florida was arrested Tuesday after he was accused of assaulting his wife during an argument, news sources indicate. The victim, whose identity was withheld in reports, sustained minor injuries to her face. Schwartz, 74, was booked into a Broward County jail on charges of domestic battery. His bail bond was set at $1,000. It is not yet known whether Schwartz has retained a private criminal defense lawyer.

Reports say the incident occurred around 8:00 Tuesday evening inside of the couple’s Hillcrest Drive home in Hollywood. The two were purportedly fighting about the upcoming presidential election between President Obama and candidate Mitt Romney, sources say. The argument got heated and when the victim attempted to move away, Schwartz reportedly followed her. Reports say Schwartz took hold of the victim’s arm and whacked her face before shoving her to the ground.

Police responded to the scene and interviewed the victim, whose head was swollen on one side. The woman purportedly declined to file a report against Schwartz, reports say; however, the officers still took Schwartz into custody. During his initial court hearing, a judge told Schwartz that he is to talk to his wife over the telephone only and have no physical contact with her for the time being.

In other news out of Florida, Arsenio Guerra of Miami-Dade County was arrested Wednesday after police found a marijuana operation inside his Miami home, reports say. Guerra, 43, was taken into police custody on charges of marijuana trafficking. It is unclear if he has qualified for bail. It is also not yet known whether he has hired legal representation.

Police say the bust came after an unknown party hinted at the existence of a marijuana lab in a home off Southwest 204th Street and 170th Avenue. Detectives, armed with a search warrant, conducted a raid which uncovered two separate hydroponic growing systems and 76 marijuana plants. Each system had its own room in the house, reports say. In total, police say they seized 495 pounds of marijuana plants, which have a market value of $2.4 million.

Detectives expressed some surprise at the sophistication of the marijuana setup. One police spokesperson said, “what makes this lab unique is the structure that housed the laboratory, the sophistication of the equipment that was used, and clearly the volume that was being harvested.” The detectives located and apprehended Guerra on the home’s premises during the raid. It is not clear whether they believe he has any accomplices in the sizeable operation or have any other leads for suspects.

According to reports, this is the second time in two weeks that detectives discovered a marijuana operation running out of a Miami-Dade home. Another purported marijuana growing operation was found on September 22 inside a home off 6355 South West and 151st Place. In that incident, a violent explosion within the home split the roof, sparking an investigation. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the explosion. The home was condemned afterwards and has since been torn down.
