One Injured in Pompano Beach, Florida Boat Accident

A Pompano Beach boating accident sent one person to the hospital with critical injuries and left eleven others with minor injuries on Thursday, news reports say. The accident occurred near the Hillsboro Inlet. None of the involved parties have been publicly identified; police may release the information after they have wrapped up their initial investigation. It is unclear whether weather, alcohol, or speed played a role in the crash.

Reports say the commercial boat, which was carrying 12 passengers, crashed at sea somewhere near the Hillsboro Inlet at an unspecified time on Thursday. It is unclear what the purpose of the voyage was, where it made birth, or where it was headed. It is also not yet known whether the boat was rented out or if it was privately owned.

The vessel was apparently able to send out a distress signal, as the U.S Coast Guard, along with rescue teams from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office and the Fort Lauderdale Department, arrived on the scene to assist with the rescue. Reports say none of the passengers went missing or required a search. The responders had to rush one passenger, who was not identified, to a nearby hospital. The passenger was described as having critical injuries, though the nature of those injuries was not specified.

A spokesperson on the scene described the wreck, saying, “[the boat] fell apart in pieces and flipped.” The other 11 passengers sustained only small, non-life threatening injuries in the wreckage. An investigation as to what caused the crash is ongoing. So far, it is not known whether speed, alcohol, or a possible bad weather played a role in the crash. As of now, no one has been charged with a crime.

An investigation is ongoing and so far, no charges have been pressed. It is unclear whether alcohol or speed played a role in the accident.

Reports say the accident occurred around 4:00 Monday morning on a stretch of State Road 7 near the 4100 block. Norton was behind the wheel of a semi-truck delivering goods to a nearby retailer, traveling southbound along the roadway. The Lexus, driven by Conner, had collided with the back end of the trailer before veering off the roadway. Paramedics arrived to the scene and pronounced Conner dead. It is unclear how long he remained in his wrecked car before Norton discovered him.
