One Dead, One Injured in Miami, Florida Motorcycle Accident

Two Miami, Florida men were involved in a motorcycle accident Sunday that left the driver dead and the passenger critically injured, news sources say. The two victims, who were reported as being in their 20’s, remain publicly unidentified as police search for their next of kin. The accident occurred when a Volkswagen, whose driver also remains anonymous, allegedly turned into the path of the motorcycle. The driver of the bike was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passenger was rushed to the Ryder Trauma Center with critical injuries. Criminal charges have not been filed as of yet, but an investigation into the accident is ongoing.

News sources say that the motorcycle accident occurred around Northwest 7th Street and 37th Avenue. The two men were headed straight when the Volkswagen, which was exiting a shopping center, turned left onto 37th Avenue in front of the oncoming bike. The motorcycle’s driver was unable to avoid the collision, and both he and the passenger flew through the air. The driver landed on the street, while the passenger flew through the windshield of an SUV carrying a man and his elderly father. Reports say that neither man was wearing a helmet.

“The impact was so severe that it basically turned the car into a different direction and it ejected both the passenger and the driver of the motorcycle,” one witness told reporters. Neither of the men were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. When emergency workers responded to the scene, they pronounced the motorcycle driver dead and rushed his passenger to the Ryder Trauma Center with critical injuries. The condition and identity of the Volkswagen driver are not readily available, but sources say that the elderly man in the SUV sustained minor cuts in the accident. His son was apparently unharmed.

Reports say that police have launched an investigation into the accident to determine the cause. The FHP is considering the possibility that the Volkswagen may have been making an illegal turn on the 37th avenue. They are also reportedly looking into whether the motorcycle was speeding. Sources indicate that bikers may have had a green light when the collision occurred.

Unfortunately, this was not the only accident to happen this week. Robert Lee Lewis of New Port Richey, Florida was killed Tuesday afternoon when his pickup truck, which was loaded with five people, rolled over multiple times. The passengers, Alexis Peshek, 14, Brian Fonseca, 22, Breann Jennies, 14, and Ross Weber, 21 – all Florida residents – all suffered serious injuries. Lewis, 21, was the only one who died as a result of the accident.

Sources say the white 2006 Ford Ranger was heading north along East Lake Road around 2 on Tuesday before the crash. Peshek and Fonseca were both reportedly in the bed of the pickup, while Jennies and Weber were in the cab with Lewis. As the truck traveled northbound, the Florida Highway Patrol reported that it swerved into the median. When the driver attempted to correct the vehicle, officials say he overcompensated, which sent the truck rolling onto its side. It then flipped nearly a half a dozen times before coming to a rest. No charges have yet been filed, and as of now, it is unclear whether speed or substance abuse played a part in the accident.
