Luis Fernando Cardona Jr. of Sunrise, Florida was arrested Thursday after he was accused of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl, news sources report. Cardona, 25, was booked into the Broward County Main Jail on charges of sexual battery on a victim under 12. A judge ordered that he be held without bail. It is unclear whether Cardona has hired a defense attorney.
According to reports, the incident occurred Wednesday at Cardona’s home. It is not clear how Cardona knows the girl, but it appears he was supervising her and her brother at the time of the incident. Sources say Cardona had the victim’s brother play in another room and told the victim to go to his bedroom. Cardona the allegedly stripped the girl, digitally penetrated her vagina, and raped her. When the victim started crying, Cardona allegedly slapped her and ordered her to be quiet.
The assault reportedly injured the victim to the point that she began bleeding profusely. The blood got on the blankets and carpet, and Cardona had the girl shower and changer her pants while he tried to clean the area, sources say. However, the girl continued to bleed and was still bleeding when her mother returned.
When the victim’s mother came to the home, the girl remained in bed and refused to talk. The mother found blood on the blankets and asked the victim what had happened. Cardona told the mother that the family cat had bled on the blankets. After examining the cat, the mother determined it was not bleeding; she also found the girl’s bloody pants, sources say.
The mother asked the child again about the blood on the bed and pants, at which point the girl apparently admitted that Cardona made her bleed. The mother confronted Cardona, who allegedly suggested that the six-year-old victim was menstruating. At that point, the mother called police.
The victim was taken to the Broward County Sexual Assault Treatment Center for further evaluation following the alleged assault. It is not clear whether she suffered from any irreparable injury due to the alleged rape. It is also not clear whether Cardona admitted to raping the girl.
In other criminal news, Scott Simon of Pompano Beach was arrested Wednesday after he was accused of fatally shooting a 33-year-old Nicholas Romondo Walker, reports say. Incredibly, reports say Simon accidentally dialed 911 from his pocket moments before the murder. Simon, 24, was booked into the Broward County Main Jail on charges of first-degree murder. It is unclear whether he qualified for bail or hired legal representation.
Thanks to the accidental pocket dial, operators were able to listen in and record as Simon reportedly planned to murder Walker. During the recording, Walker said he planned to follow Walker to his home and kill him, reports say; it not clear who he was talking to at the time. A few moments later, Simon followed through with those plans and shot and killed Walker, according to reports. Police used the recording to arrest Simon. It is not clear what the motive for the alleged killing was.
