Keturah Kelly, Veronica Blackman, and Six Children Involved in Pompano Beach, Florida Collision

Keturah Kelly, Veronica Blackman, and six children were involved in a Pompano Beach, Florida collision on Friday, news sources report. The accident occurred when Kelly rear-ended Blackman’s van, which was carrying six children. Kelly, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene. Blackman, 52, and the six children in her vehicle sustained minor injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Police are currently conducting an investigation to determine what caused the crash; it appears speed may have been a factor.

According to reports, Blackman had been driving a school van for Kidsville Early Learning Center at the time of the collision. The learning center is based out of Delray Beach and caters primarily to pre-school aged children, sources show. Blackman was most likely driving six children, aged 6-10 years old, home at the time of the accident. So far, no spokesperson for Kidsville Early Learning Center has commented on the crash.

The collision occurred at around 2:40 Friday afternoon at the intersection of Ninth Street and Northwest 27th Avenue. The Ninth Street portion of the intersection is regulated by stop signs. Both roads are standard, two-way streets with two yellow lines separating opposite lanes. It is not clear which road the vehicles were on at the time of the accident.

Reports say Blackman had slowed down to make a left turn at the intersection. Kelly, however, failed to slow down and collided with the back of the van. Sources say Kelly’s Nissan Altima was traveling at “high speeds” when it rear-ended Blackman’s van. “It just slammed straight into the back of the van,” a witness said. “When [Kelly’s Altima] hit the van, it pushed the van all the way over the curb and it hopped… once the van hopped, it just landed a little on top of the Altima.”

The van left the roadway and struck a telephone pole. According to reports, Kelly died at the scene of the crash. Blackman and three of the children were taken to Broward Health North Medical Center; the three other children were rushed to Broward Health Medical Center. Police say the Blackman and the six children sustained only minor injuries in the collision.

In other news, a Greenacres girl was injured in an accident at a trailer park on Saturday, reports say. Police are currently conducting an investigation and have not said whether the driver is at fault. No charges have yet been filed.

Reports say the accident occurred around 10:40 Saturday morning at the Casa Del Monte trailer park off Forest Hill Boulevard. The victim was on foot when an unknown make and model vehicle struck her; the details of the crash have not yet been released. She was taken to the Palms West Hospital for treatment. Sources say she sustained minor injuries. An update on her condition was not immediately available following the incident.

It is not clear whether the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and is cooperating with authorities. No names have been released to the public yet.
