Julie Kay Harper of Indian River County, Florida Arrested for Driving Under the Influence

Julie Kay Harper of Indian River County, Florida was arrested Saturday after she was accused of nearly running a police cruiser off the road while under the influence of alcohol, news sources report. Harper, 44, was booked into police custody on charges of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, and driving an unregistered car. She was later released from jail after posting an unspecified bail bond amount. The press did not specify an lawyer for Harper.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 1:15 early Saturday morning. Officers were responding to a burglary call in Vero Beach. Reports say Harper nearly ran the responding officers off the road as she made a wide turn while changing lanes in her Mercury Grand Marquis.

The officers pulled Harper and spoke with her. They allegedly immediately noticed that her speech was slurred and that she appeared confused. Additionally, Harper’s eyes appeared watery and bloodshot and the officers could smell alcohol on her breath, reports indicate. At some point, Harper accidentally let her foot off the brake and the car moved forward, sources say. An officer reportedly reached into the car and put it into park to prevent injury.

During the traffic stop, one of the police officers asked Harper how she was feeling. “I’m awesome,” she reportedly responded. The officer went on to ask how long Harper had resided at her home. “A minute,” she purportedly said. Harper allegedly confessed to consuming three beers before driving her car and said, “Yeah, I know I’m f***ed.”

Officers had her exit the vehicle to perform a sobriety test. During that test, Harper purportedly asked an officer, “Are we going to dance?” The officer asked Harper to walk in a straight line, sources say. She reportedly tried but quit, saying, “I can’t… my legs are fat. It’s not [going] happen. Just f***ing take me to jail.” Harper was then arrested and booked into the county jail.

Harper was not the only Florida woman arrested for DUI recently. Kimberly Jean Womack of New Port Richey was arrested Sunday after she drunkenly demanded free food from a McDonald’s drive-through, reports say. Womack was booked into the Land O’ Lakes Jail on charges of driving under the influence. She was later released on her own recognizance. It is unclear whether she hired legal representation.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 6:00 Sunday morning at a McDonalds drive-through on State Road 54. Womack told an employee that she wanted two free Big Macs because the hamburgers she had during a previous trip had been unsatisfactory, reports say. The employee then informed her that they were serving breakfast, so Womack reportedly changed her order to two free Egg McMuffins.

The employee refused to hand out free food, sources say and asked Womack to leave the premises. Sources say she refused, despite the growing line behind her. Officers later arrived and placed her under arrest. Womack later registered a 0.108 percent blood-alcohol level and reported having taken Klonopin, an anti-anxiety drug, reports say.
