Joshua Williams of Key Largo, Florida was arrested Sunday after he was accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl, news sources indicate. Another 17-year-old suspect may have taken part in the assault, though it is unclear whether he was arrested. Williams, 20, was booked into police custody on charges of lewd and lascivious battery on a person older than 12 but less than 16 years of age. It is unclear whether he has qualified for bail bond. It is also not yet known whether he has hired an attorney.
Reports say the alleged incident occurred on July 13 when the 15-year-old victim, who reports did not identify publicly, visited the home of a friend in Key Largo. The 17-year-old friend, identified as only a male, was at the residence with Williams, sources say. It is unclear whether the two men share a residence together or if Williams was just visiting the home.
A report from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office indicates that during her four-hour stay at the hotel, the victim purportedly consumed a moderate amount of alcohol, a report from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office indicates. The victim told detectives that she began to feel lethargic and dizzy after consuming the drinks and that Williams and the other male escorted her to a bedroom. Once there, the two men allegedly raped the girl.
Following the alleged sexual assault, Williams and the 17-year old reportedly visited a nearby pharmacy and picked up a ‘plan B’ packet (plan B is a contraceptive that can be used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex). The two men allegedly instructed the teen to take one pill from the packet at the scene and another some hours later.
The victim later reported the alleged sexual assault to the police, and detectives arrested Williams and questioned him regarding the incident. According to reports, Williams confessed to having intercourse with the girl, despite knowing that she was only 15. It is unclear whether police arrested the 17-year-old suspect or if he, too, will be charged in the alleged assault.
In other news, Leroy Strothers of Boynton Beach, Florida was arrested Friday after he was accused of confronting two people with a firearm, reports indicate. Strothers, 31, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, resisting arrest without violence, and robbery with a firearm. It is unclear whether he qualified for bail or hired legal representation.
Reports say the incident occurred around 9:00 Friday evening. A dating couple was walking along the North Seacrest Boulevard when Strothers approached and asked if they would be interested in purchasing marijuana, sources say. The couple refused, however, and Strothers left the scene. A few moments later Strothers allegedly returned toting a .22 caliber revolver, reports say. The male victim reportedly swung at Strothers, who fled.
Police, presumably alerted by the couple or witnesses, arrived shortly after and searched the area. According to reports, officers located a handgun in the lawn of the nearby Poinciana Elementary School. They arrested Strothers at a residence in the vicinity.
