James Hollis Jr. of Deerfield Beach, Florida was arrested Tuesday after he was accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl, news sources report. Hollis, 23, was booked into the Broward County Main Jail on charges of sexual assault by a person 18 years or older on a victim 12 years or younger. A judge ordered that he be held without bail bond. It is not yet known whether Hollis has hired a defense attorney.
According to reports, the incident occurred at the victim’s home in Deerfield Beach. It is not yet known what relation Hollis is to the victim or whether he was watching the child at the time of the incident. Either way, on Wednesday evening, the victim was in her bedroom watching the Disney movie “Hercules” when Hollis reportedly entered and lay down on the bed next to her. Hollis allegedly proceeded to expose his genitals and force the child to perform fellatio on him. The victim reportedly did not cry out during the attack, but she did tell her mother what had happened the following day.
Hollis denied assaulting the girl during questioning, reports say. Hollis and his parents appeared in court on Tuesday. The parents declined to comment on the allegations, sources say. An investigation is ongoing.
Both adults and children are susceptible to sexual crimes. Alfred Thomas Carreiro of Port Charlotte was arrested Tuesday for allegedly sexually assaulting an undercover officer, reports say. Carreiro, 62, was booked into the Charlotte County Jail on charges of battery. He is being held without bond. It is not yet known whether he has obtained legal representation.
According to reports, police have received several complaints about a spike in sexual crime in Kiwanis Park on Donora Street in Port Charlotte. In response, detectives with the sheriff’s office narcotics unit were conducting and undercover operation in the area. It is not clear how many people were arrest as a result of the operation.
At the park, Carreiro reportedly approached and undercover detective and started chatting with him. At some point, Carreiro reportedly asked the detective to walk with him to a quieter part of the park. The two went to a secluded area, where Carreiro allegedly asked if the undercover detective was interested in having oral sex with him. The detective said he was indecisive and the pair continued their walk, ending up in an even more secluded area.
Sometime during the walk, Carreiro allegedly grabbed the detective’s genital area, reports say. The detective signaled backup and other narcotics officers rushed to the scene and placed Carreiro under arrest.
Others are being caught for similar crimes at Kiwanis Park as well. Detectives arrested 66-year-old Lawrence McGrael during the same operation and in a starkly parallel manner, sources indicate. McGrael allegedly approached an undercover detective at the park last week. The two struck up a conversation, then McGrael and the detective went on a walk to a more secluded area of the park. McGrael allegedly asked the detective if he thought the secluded area was a good one for sexual activity before attempting to grab the detective’s groin without permission.
