Hector Calderon of Greenacres, Florida Arrested for Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Crash and Driving Without a Valid License

Hector Calderon of Greenacres, Florida was arrested for his involvement in a fatal car crash that ended the life of 18-year-old Marielena Plaza. He allegedly crashed into Plaza’s vehicle after running a stop sign on First Street. Calderon was booked into Palm Beach County Jail after his arrest and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bond. News sources did not specify an attorney for Calderon.

According to the arrest report filed at the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, Calderon, 19, and his unidentified passenger purportedly tried to flee from the scene of the crash, but a police deputy apprehended Calderon behind a restaurant less than half a mile away from the accident site. Calderon’s passenger was grabbed by a witness.

Officers claim to have found a 16 oz. can of Hurricane High Gravity Beer in the driver’s seat of Calderon’s black 2008 Toyota Camry. Calderon, who allegedly does not have a valid driver’s license, reportedly slurred his speech and had a strong odor of alcohol during questioning. It is unclear whether tests were performed to check Calderon’s blood alcohol levels.

The18-year-old woman who died in the crash was the front-seat passenger in a 2010 Honda CRV driven by Carmen Rosa, 39, also of Greenacres. Rosa was driving west on First Street when Calderon crashed into her car after allegedly disregarding a stop sign as he was driving south on Martin Avenue.

The arrest report states that Rosa had the right-of-way at the intersection and Calderon should have stopped. The crash hit Rosa’s Honda with such force that it rotated towards the corner of the intersection, overturned, and ejected the front-seat passenger.

Calderon faces charges of driving without a valid license and leaving the scene of a fatal crash. Florida state records show that he has six previous arrests, including convictions for giving a false name and possession of drug paraphernalia.
