A Hallandale Beach, Florida car accident injured a mother and her 4-year-old daughter Thursday, sources say. The girl’s father intentionally crashed into the mother’s vehicle because he was upset about custody problems then fled the scene leaving the pair behind, sources say. It is unclear if the driver of an SUV that became tied up in the crash was injured. So far, none of the parties involved have been identified. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the father is wanted for questioning by police regarding the crash.
Reports say the episode occurred around noon Thursday. The former couple began arguing about custody issues at an unspecified location when, at some point, the father allegedly drew a gun. No one was shot and a weapon was not discharged during the fight, but sources suggest that the father may have tried to take the child by force. However, the mother was able to get into her car with the child and start driving off. The father then followed in his red Camaro and struck the woman’s car, allegedly on purpose, reports say. The woman’s car, propelled by the crash, rammed into an SUV.
Police responded to the scene and found two wrecked vehicles, including the mother’s silver car and an SUV, both with damages. A family member arrived on the scene and took the daughter to the Aventura Hospital. The mother followed shortly after; neither she nor her daughter was seriously injured in the crash. It is not yet known whether the driver of the SUV was hurt. It is also unclear if the father of the child was injured.
Police say they are investigating the crash and are searching for the father. Reports say his Camaro sustained heavy damages to its front and left side in the crash. As far as reports of the man being armed, a police spokesperson told reporters, “We don’t have any specific reports of him pointing it at anyone or firing it or anything like that, but we do have at least one report that a firearm was brandished during the initial custody dispute.”
