Douglas Eaton, Pompano Beach, Florida Photographer, Arrested for Child Pornography

Douglas Eaton, a Pompano Beach, Florida photographer, was arrested Thursday for allegedly downloading child pornography and paying for sex with a 15-year-old prostitute, news sources report. Eaton, 48, was booked into the Broward County Main Jail on seven counts of possessing child pornography, two counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a victim between 12 and 16 years of age, procuring a person under the age of 18 for prostitution, and use of a computer to compile and collect child pornography. A county judge set his bail bond at $101,000.

According to reports, Eaton is the owner and operator of Doug’s Photography Inc., which first opened for business in 1994. Since then, Eaton has worked on a number of Broward community and school projects, including high school sporting events, sources state. “It should be noted that the defendant is a photographer who frequently attends and photographs school functions and children’s sporting events throughout Broward County, and as such has access to pre-teen and teenage children through his work,” a police report allegedly says.

Investigators allegedly learned that in June, an escort agency accepted $180 from Eaton in exchange for sex with a 15-year-old girl. The press did not say how detectives learned of the purported transaction. Eaton apparently later said that he did not know that the girl was under 18. The name of the escort service has not been publicly released, nor has the girl been publicly identified. It is not clear whether anyone involved in the service is facing prosecution as well.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Human Trafficking Task Force later obtained a search warrant for Eaton’s Pompano Beach home. Detectives apparently confiscated hard drivers, computers, DVDs, CDs, and memory sticks from the home for further evaluation. A scan of the digital media turned up at least seven pictures of young girls between the ages of 8 and 13 showing and fondling their private parts, sources say.

Eaton purportedly explained that he had thought the pictures were “attractive,” but that he had actually been searching the web for general pornography when he inadvertently discovered them. A forensic exam reportedly showed that Eaton looked up child porn six different times on a search engine and had downloaded the photos in June.

In court, a county judge reportedly said, “Based on these allegations, the court is greatly concerned for the safety of the community, teenage girls in the community. He’s going to be allowed to work. He can work as a photographer with the conditions set forth.” The judge ordered that Eaton be restricted from photographing or being in close contact with any female under the age of 18. The judge added that Eaton must stay off the Internet and not leave the area.

So far, there have been correlations of any wrongdoing with Eaton’s work as a photographer. Despite his close proximity with youth in the past, Eaton does not appear to have abused his position and does not have a criminal record in the state of Florida, sources say.
