Dimitri Jamal Daniels of Pembroke Pines, Florida Accused of Sexually Assaulting a Child

Dimitri Jamal Daniels of Pembroke Pines, Florida was arrested on September 10 for allegedly sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl he met through a church youth group.

Daniels, 18, is being charged with lewd and lascivious molestation and sexual assault on a minor under 12. He is being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail. The press did not name an attorney for him.

According to the arrest report, Daniels met the alleged victim at the Mount Pisgah Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Miami Gardens, where he volunteered as a youth leader. He reportedly coerced the 5-year-old victim to perform sex acts on him on at least four occasions in the past year, starting when she was 4 years old.

Police say the incidents started with Daniels showing the victim pornographic videos as a teaching tool. The victim’s aunt purportedly caught him in the act on September 9 and called the police. Daniels turned himself in the following day.

“He had shown the victim in this case pornographic materials and in essence demonstrated or showed her what he wanted her to do,” Police Captain Al Xiques told the press on September 11.

Daniels was reportedly in contact with many children during his time at the church and investigators suspect there may be more cases of child abuse.

“He had the opportunity to be around children on a regular basis, so we’re asking parents who may have attended that church with their children or who believe they may have been in contact with the suspect in the case to please speak with their children and see if they’ve had any inappropriate contact with Mr. Daniels,” Xiques said.

Another sexual battery incident involving an adult and a minor was reported in Miami-Dade last week. Police lieutenant Braulio Gonzalez was arrested on September 13 for allegedly molesting an underage victim.

Gonzalez, 44, is charged with armed kidnapping and lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under 12. He is being held without bond at Miami-Dade Jail. The press did not name an attorney for him.

According to the arrest report, the victim told her psychologist that Gonzalez molested her multiple times over the course of two years, from when she was 8 to 10 years old. Investigators say Gonzalez and the victim were known to one another, but the exact nature of their relationship was redacted to protect the victim’s identity.

The psychologist alerted child protective investigators, who interviewed the child. The victim told them that Gonzalez fondled her breasts, vagina, and buttocks over and under her clothing, the report said. The first incident occurred when she was 8 years old. She woke up to find Gonzalez pointing a gun at her head. He threatened to kill her sibling who was sleeping in the same room if she didn’t come with him. Gonzalez then led her to his bedroom, where he sexually assaulted her.

Gonzalez, who is a member of Miami-Dade’s Special Response Team, was arrested at his team’s headquarters last Thursday.
