Delie Ann Dunfee of Palm Beach, Florida was arrested after she was accused of drunkenly hitting three cars in a Walmart parking lot while two children sat in the back seat of her vehicle, according to local news reports. Dunfee, 33, was booked into Palm Beach County Jail on Monday on two counts each of child neglect and battery on a law enforcement officer, as well as one count of driving under the influence. She was subsequently released on supervision, sources indicate. It remains unclear whether she has retained a private criminal defense lawyer.
According to press reports, Dunfee was apprehended in a Walmart parking lot in Jupiter, Florida on Monday at approximatey 8:00 p.m. Dunfee was accused by witnesses of driving into the parking lot, located at 2144 West Indiantown Road, and hitting three vehicles with her 2006 Chevrolet truck. She then allegedly drove out again, ignoring the efforts of an off-duty Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Deputy to stop her.
Public reports do not include the three vehicles that Dunfee allegedly crashed into. One of the vehicles was reportedly a black sedan, bu that is all that is known. The financial repurcussions of the crashes are not avaialble. It is similarly not known whether the owners of the vehicles plan on pressing charges.
Sources indicate that someone called police, who pulled Dunfee over at the intersection of Toney Penna Drive and Central Boulevard. She allegedly showed signs of impairment, including slurred and nonsensical speech. It is not clear whether she submitted to a brethalyzer test or other field sobriety test. Her blood alcohol content was not released in public reports.
During her arrest, Dunfee was allegedly uncooperative, yelling at the officers and stating repeatedly that she was ‘trying to go home.’ She later allegedly told them repeatedly to ‘arrest her already.’ Once arrested, she allegedly used physical force against one the officers, elbowing him in the chest and kicking him in the leg. She also allegedly treatened kick the door of the patrol car while she was being driven to jail.
The children, both 4, do not appear to have been harmed in the incident. On of them is Dunfee’s child, while another was a friend of Dunfee’s child.
Dunfee is not the only Floridian under suspicion of driving under the influence this week. In Miami-Dade, a police officer conducting a traffic stop ended up making an arrest when a van crashed into his patrol car, according to news reports. The name of the driver of the van has not been released, but the person was reportedly arrested and is suspected to have been drunk at the time of the car accident.
Again, it is not clear whether the driver of the van was administered a breathalyzer or field sobriety test. The driver’s blood alcohol content at the time of the crash is not known. However, the driver allegedly crashed into a patrol car at the corner of Southwest 130th Avenue and 104th Street. Sources indicate that the van may have been traveling over the speed limit. Luckily, it does not appear as though anyone was hurt in the incident, despite the fact that the trooper was in the patrol car at the time of the crash.
