Darrell Allen Evans and Huy Kien Trinh of Pembroke Pines, Florida were arrested recently after they allegedly had sex with a 16-year-old boy without telling him that that they were HIV positive, sources say. Evans, 40, and Trinh, 32, were booked into the Broward County Main Jail, Evans on $410,000 bail bond and Trinh on $420,000. Both men were charged with failing to reveal their HIV status and sexual assault on a minor. They may also face additional charges of attempted murder. No defense attorney has been listed for either defendant yet.
According to reports, Evan and Trinh cohabitate in a residence located in the 15100 block of Northwest Seventh Court. The defendants reportedly met they underage boy on Grindr, a location-based social media application that allows homosexual and bisexual men to find and chat with one another. Evans and Trinh allegedly used the app to entice the minor into meeting them at their home on December 12.
While the boy was at the residence, the group allegedly disrobed and climbed into a hot tub. They kissed and engaged in sexual activity while in the tub, reports say. The trio later moved to a bedroom where they allegedly inhaled alkyl nitrates, a recreational aphrodisiac, before engaging in additional sexual activity. At no point did Evans and Trinh inform the minor that they were both HIV positive, sources say; in fact, they allegedly told the teen that they were HIV-free.
It is unclear when police learned of the alleged incident. Reports say the victim could not point the two suspects out in a photo lineup. Instead, the victim exchanged police-monitored messages and phone calls with the suspects. During those communications, Evans and Trinh reportedly indicated that they had in fact had sex with the boy. Trinh also said, “The youngest guy he had sex with was 17,” reports say.
During a court hearing, a county judge restricted the defendants from using the internet and having contact with minors. “I do consider you a threat to the community,” the judge said.
Evans and Trinh were not the only South Florida residents apprehended for sex with a minor recently. Jeffrey Browning of Belle Glade was arrested Monday after a 15-year-old girl accused him of sexually assaulting her, reports say. Browning, 24, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on two counts of sexual assault.
The victim claims she was at Browning’s home on December 18 and 19 when the abuse occurred. Browning allegedly struck the girl, forced her into his bedroom, and shoved her onto his bed. The victim says Browning choked her, removed her pants despite her protests, and proceeded to rape her.
The abuse occurred again on December 28 when Browning was supposed to give her a ride home, according to the victim’s testimony. Instead of taking the victim home, Browning allegedly took her to his aunt’s residence. There, the victim says Browning raped her a second time. This time, however, he allegedly recorded some of the act and uploaded it to Facebook.
The victim’s cousin later found the video and reported it to her grandmother, who in turn reported it to police, sources say. During a police-monitored phone call, Browning apparently admitted to having sex with the victim, reports say.
