Colby Allen Brown Injures Four in Delray Beach, Florida DUI Collision

Colby Allen Brown injured four people in a Delray Beach, Florida DUI collision in December, news sources indicate. Information regarding the victims’ identities was not immediately available following the collision. All four of them sustained critical injuries. Brown, 23, has since been charged with four counts of driving under the influence and causing bodily harm to another. He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail, where he is being held on $20,000 bail bond. So far, no criminal defense lawyer has spoken up on his behalf.

The accident reportedly occurred at around 11:30 p.m. on December 31. Brown was on his way home from a New Year’s Eve party at the time. According to reports, as Brown entered the intersection of North Ocean Boulevard and George Bush Boulevard, he crashed into a vehicle carrying four people. The collision left both vehicles with severe front-end damage, reports say. It is unclear what direction the vehicles were traveling when they collided. It is also not know whether Brown ran a light, stop sign, or otherwise violated right of way during the crash.

Paramedics arrived on the scene and found a badly damaged Mercedes-Benz SUV and a similarly damaged Dodge Ram pickup truck in the intersection. It is currently unclear who was driving which vehicle. Paramedics rushed the four victims to the Bethesda Hospital East; police say those victims sustained serious bodily injuries in the collision.

Police spoke with Brown at the scene and he reportedly admitted to drinking “two beers” prior to driving. According to police, Brown began to speak in a “slow, stuttered and murmured tone” and said, “[he] only had two beers and was just trying to get home from a New Year’s party.” According to reports, a blood test later revealed that Brown’s blood alcohol was 0.255 during the night of the accident. The legal limit in Florida is 0.08. Paramedics took him to the Bethesda Hospital with unspecified injuries soon after the crash.

State records show there were 1,123 alcohol-related accidents in Palm Beach County in 2010; there were also 31 deaths caused by alcohol-impaired driving accidents that year as well.

In other accident-related news, one person was injured in a West Palm Beach accident on Sunday, reports say. Information regarding the victim’s identity and condition was not available following the crash; the victim was air-rushed to a nearby hospital following the crash. Police are currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

According to reports, the accident occurred at around 4:00 Sunday morning at the corner of 16th Place and Forest Hill Boulevard. While the exact details are unclear, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue says it arrived on the scene and found a badly damaged vehicle upside-down in the street. The victim was trapped inside the vehicle. Paramedics cut the victim out of the overturned vehicle and loaded him onto the Trauma Hawk helicopter. Reports say helicopter took the victim to the Delray Medical Center; further information about his condition was not available following the accident. Police are investigating the accident and did not say whether speed or alcohol was a factor in the violent accident.
