Christopher Prestol of Miami, Florida Injures Jean Colas in DUI Hit-and-Run Accident

Christopher Prestol of Miami, Florida allegedly injured Jean Colas in a DUI hit-and-run accident on Saturday, news sources report. Prestol was arrested following the crash and booked into the Miami-Dade County Jail on charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury and driving under the influence. It is unclear whether Prestol qualified for bail. It is also unclear whether he has hired a criminal defense lawyer to represent his case.

According to reports, Jean Colas works as a security guard and occasionally rides a yellow scooter to and from work. The accident occurred early Saturday morning as Colas was on the MacArthur Causeway on his way home from work. Reports say Prestol’s vehicle struck Colas’s scooter and dragged it for several blocks. Colas was thrown from his scooter during the incident.

Paramedics arrived and rushed Colas to the Jackson Memorial Hospital. According to reports, Colas sustained a number of bruises and lacerations and was unable to move his neck following the episode. Prestol fled the scene following the crash; however, officers were able to catch up with him in Coral Gables on U.S. 1, reports say. An officer spotted the vehicle and noticed it had damage to its front end and a broken windshield. Reports did not say what make and model the vehicle was.

“They told me [my] father was in accident,” The victim’s daughter, Gaelle Colas, told the press following the crash. “It was terrible for me because I love him. He’s the only one to take care of us and I [don’t] know what can I do.” It is not clear whether the family plans on filing for damages.

Colas was not the only Florida resident to be injured in a motorbike accident recently. Cristian Thomas of Lauderhill was killed Sunday when his motorcycle collided with a car, reports say. Thomas, 19, died while en route to the hospital. The other driver was taken to the Westside Regional Hospital; his injuries were deemed non-life threatening. It is unclear who was at a fault in the collision or if charges will be filed.

According to reports, the accident occurred around 7:50 Sunday morning at the intersection of Josh Lee Road and Oakland Park Boulevard. The driver of a Honda Accord was heading west on Oakland Park when he or she attempted a left turn on to Josh Lee Road. Thomas was headed east on Oakland Park and collided with the Accord as it was turning, reports say. It is unclear whether Thomas was wearing a helmet at the time.

Paramedics arrived on the scene and rushed both drivers to nearby hospitals; however, Thomas died while on the way to the hospital.. The other driver, who reports did not identify, arrived at the Westside Regional Hospital, where physicians said his or her condition is stable. It is unclear which driver was at fault in the crash. It is also unclear whether speed or a driver-side distraction contributed to the crash. Police say the Honda driver is cooperating with investigators.
