Candice Lee of Key Largo, Florida Arrested for Aggravated Battery

Candice Lee of Key Largo, Florida was arrested Thursday after she was accused of shooting a former lover following a heated argument, news sources indicate. The victim, Shakir Muilam, 45, was rushed to the Ryder Trauma Center with a gunshot wound; he is expected to survive. Lee, 37, was booked into police custody on one count of aggravated battery. It is unclear whether she qualified for bail bond. It is also not yet known whether she has hired a lawyer.

Reports say the problems started at around 1:00 on Thursday morning at Lee’s home on the 200 block of St. Croix Place. There, Lee reportedly lived with her husband and Muilam. Lee and her husband, who has not been publicly identified, invited Muliam to move in with them because he was cancer, sources indicate. According to reports, Lee and her husband have an open relationship and Lee and Muliam had once had an intimate relationship, though they were not involved at the time of the incident.

Around 1:00 that night, Lee was outside of the home speaking with a man she is involved with when Muilam noticed and confronted her. Muliam was reportedly upset that she was talking to another man, so she told Muliam “that was her lifestyle and if he didn’t like it he could leave,” a report says. The two began to argue and at some point Lee fell and banged he head. It is unclear if she slipped or was pushed.

At that point Lee allegedly entered the home, retrieved a rifle, and then confronted Muilam, pointing the gun at him. According to reports, Lee kept the gun trained on Muilam, and when she noticed him attempting to retrieve something she shot him. It is not clear whether Muliam was armed or owns a weapon; Lee may have believed she was acting in self-defense by shooting Muliam.

The bullet met its target, though reports do not specify where Muliam was shot. Paramedics arrived to the scene and air-rushed the man to the Ryder Trauma Center in Miami for treatment for the gunshot wound. His condition was described as stable condition later that night.

In other news, police in Miami, Florida have announced their plans to increase police patrols throughout the city during the upcoming holiday season. The inflation in patrols is part of an operation dubbed “Operation Safe Holidays.” The extra patrols will target criminals who go after the increase of shoppers expected to be out during this holiday season.

Reports say the officers will be searching for criminals, such as thieves and panhandlers, during the operation. The increase in activity at retailers and restaurants brings an increase in quality-of-life crimes. At least one person attempting to break into a car has been arrested already this season. According to police, foot patrols are one of the most effective forms of security during this operation.

“You just have to pay attention to your surroundings, and trust your instincts. I tell people that all the time,” a police spokesperson said. Police also urged people to use their better judgment and travel safely during the holidays.
