At least two of the bikers sustained serious injuries and were placed under a trauma alert. Reports say the accident occurred around 8:30 Saturday morning along U.S. 27 in Broward County. The four bicyclists were traveling on the northbound lanes of the road when they were hit by a vehicle. Shapero, 79, was on foot when he walked into the path of Angela Rodriguez’s vehicle on Okeechobee Boulevard. Rodriguez, 40, does not appear to have been injured in the accident. Shapero was taken to the St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead of his wounds. An investigation into the crash is ongoing, though initial reports suggest Rodriguez was not at fault.
Reports say the accident occurred around 7:50 Wednesday evening at the intersection Royal Palm Beach Boulevard and Okeechobee Boulevard. Reports say Rodriguez was traveling along the left lane of Okeechobee Boulevard in her 2005 Volkswagen and had just passed through the intersection on a green light when Shapero walked in front of her car. Reports say the right front of the vehicle hit Shapero. It is not clear why he allegedly walked into oncoming traffic.
Paramedics arrived on the scene afterwards and rushed Shapero to the St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach with serious injuries. Doctors later pronounced Shapero dead of his injuries. An investigation into the accident is ongoing. Police say Rodriguez had the green light when she struck Shapero and took evasive actions during the crash. It is not known whether she was hurt.
