Carnright, 33, was arrested Friday on one count of sexual battery. He remains in jail on $10,000 bond and was ordered to surrender his passport. The press did not name an attorney for him.
According to the arrest report, the alleged sexual battery occurred at around 2:30 a.m. on March 2 outside of Sandbar Sports Grill in Coconut Grove. Carnright reportedly met the victim outside the bar and exchanged phone numbers with her.
The warrant states that after further conversation, the victim got inside Carnright’s white BMW, where the sexual battery occurred. It is not clear whether the victim was expecting to go somewhere with Carnright in the vehicle, but the vehicle reportedly did not leave the area.
During the alleged assault, Carnright purportedly pulled his pants and underwear down and forced the victim to masturbate him. He then grabbed the victim’s head and forced her to perform oral sex on him. Afterwards, he raped her without a condom despite her protests, the warrant said.
The report said the victim eventually got out of the vehicle and went back to the bar, where she told a bartender what had happened. The bartender reportedly recognized Carnright’s name because he was a regular at the bar. It is not clear whether the victim sought medical treatment or a rape kit immediately after the assault.
The bartender told investigators that she saw Carnright again some months later and he asked her if she knew about what happened between him and the alleged victim. The bartender told him that the victim had told her he had sexually assaulted her and Carnright denied it. He claimed that they just hung out and he gave the victim money, investigators said. News reports don’t immediately clarify why Carnright would have given the victim money.
According to the arrest report, the victim also talked to Carnright about the alleged rape incident during a text conversation. She texted him saying that he was “too pushy,” and that she “didn’t want to do that” and she “kept saying it.”
Carnright purportedly replied, “I know Im sooo sprry (sic) ugh,” and “plz don’t be mad,” news sources report.
Carnright was contacted by an investigator on December 6 and was told to respond to the Special Victims Unit office about the incident. Carnright told him that he was traveling but he would be returning on December 11.
He reportedly agreed to contact the office as soon as he returned. However, he never contacted any investigators and several calls to his phone went to voicemail, authorities said. He was finally located and arrested on Friday.
Carnright is an attorney specializing in insurance coverage and defense at Groelle & Salmon in Miami. It is not clear whether his employment has been affected by his arrest.
