Angelina Ferrarella and Donna Dangelo Killed, Joanne Luu Injured in Boca Raton, Florida Accident

Angelina Ferrarella and Donna Dangelo were killed in a Boca Raton, Florida accident when Joanne Luu, who was allegedly driving drunk, crashed into their vehicle, reports indicate. Ferrarella, 85, and Dangelo, 54, were both passengers in a Toyota at the time of the wreck. The driver and other passenger of the Toyota, who were not publicly identified, were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for serious injuries. Luu, 20, has since been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of DUI manslaughter. It is not known whether she was injured in the crash. It is also not yet known whether she has hired an attorney.

Reports say the accident occurred earlier this year as Luu traveled north along Sandalfoot Boulevard and SR 7 at around 8:00 in the evening. A 2001 Toyota carrying Ferrarella and Dangelo was headed in the opposite direction. At some point, the driver of the Toyota attempted a left-hand turn onto Sandalfoot Boulevard and Luu’s BMW collided with the Toyota. It is not clear whether the Toyota had the right-of-way at the time or if there is a light at the intersection.

Fire rescue teams and paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after and rushed all four of the Toyota’s occupants to a nearby hospital. The driver and one passenger sustained serious but non-fatal injuries. Ferrarella and Dangelo later died of their injuries, sources say. It is not known whether Luu was hurt.

Detectives investigating the accident performed a toxicology test on a sample of Luu’s blood taken shortly after the crash. The results showed that Luu was inebriated when the accident occurred, sources say. An investigation into the accident later led to Luu’s arrest on DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide.

In other accident-related news, an SUV smashed into a parked bus on Thursday in Broward County, killing the SUV’s driver and injuring two bus passengers, sources say. The driver of the SUV, who was not identified, was taken to the Broward Health Medical Center with critical injurers; the person later died. The injured passengers were also taken to the Westside Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. An investigation into the accident is ongoing; so far, it is unclear whether alcohol or speed was a factor.

Reports say the accident occurred around 6:30 Thursday morning along a portion of Broward Boulevard by 108th Avenue. The SUV driver was traveling eastbound along the roadway when he collided with the bus, which was parked at the time. Reports say the Route 22 bus is part of a publicly owned fleet and operated primarily on Broward Boulevard.

Paramedics arrived on the scene following the accident and rushed the SUV driver to the Broward Health Medical Center, where doctors later pronounced him dead of his injuries. Two of the bus’s occupants were taken to the Westside Regional Medical Center when they reported feeling pain from injuries sustained in the collision. The extent of the damage to the bus has not been released; it is not clear when the vehicle will be back in service.
