Alexander Bacarella of Lake Worth, Florida accidentally hit the gas at a car wash on Saturday, injuring five of the facility’s employees, news sources report. The incident occurred at Motor City Car Wash. Information regarding the victims’ identities was not immediately available following the accident, though sources say they were taken to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. Bacarella, 46, has since been charged with careless driving. It is unclear whether he has hired an attorney. It is also unclear whether the victims will file for damages.
According to reports, the accident occurred around 12:00 Saturday afternoon at the Motor City Car Wash’s Royal Palm location, which is just off South State Road 7 in Wellington. The car wash has not released an official statement regarding the crash. It does not appear as though the accident caused any structural damage to the business.
Bacarella was a customer at the car wash; as he was leaving the wash’s parking lot, he accidentally put his foot on the gas instead of the brake, sources say. His vehicle apparently accelerated and struck another vehicle, causing a chain reaction. “[Bacarella’s] car hit another car which hit another car and another car — several vehicles,” a police spokesperson said. One of the car wash’s employees was trapped between two cars during the incident.
Sources say five of the car wash’s employees sustained minor injuries in the accident; rescue crews took two to the Palms West Hospital and three to the Wellington Regional Hospital. It is not clear whether the two victims who went to the hospital have been discharged. Detectives took Bacarella’s statement and chose to charge him with careless driving for his role in the collision; it is not believed that alcohol or any other substance was involved. None of the other drivers appears to have been injured, though they may have incurred damage on their vehicles.
In other news, Monette Duclair was killed in a Coral Springs collision accident on Thursday, reports say. Duclair’s vehicle veered off the road and collided with a tree; she was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are currently conducting an investigation to determine why the 35-year-old motorist’s vehicle left the road. No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Reports say the accident occurred just before 6:00 Thursday morning in the 900 block of Lakeview Drive. Duclair’s 2006 Toyota Camry was heading south on Lakeview Drive at unknown speeds. According to reports, as Duclair reached a sharp curve in the road, she lost control of her vehicle. Her car shot off the road, struck a curb, and collided with a tree, sources say.
Officials found Duclair’s badly damaged vehicle after an unspecified party reported the accident. The passenger’s side of her car was partially wrapped around the tree. Sadly, paramedics pronounced Duclair dead at the scene. Police were investigating the accident afterwards, but were unable to determine what causes led to the fatal collision. So far, detectives have not said whether a controlled substance, speed, or a combination of both, led to the accident.
