Miracle Griffin of Pompano Beach, Florida Killed in ATV Accident

Miracle-Griffin-271x300Miracle Griffin of Pompano Beach, Florida was killed in an accident last Sunday while riding on the back of an ATV driven by Chauncey Edwards in Pompano Beach. According to Broward Sheriff’s Office, Edwards, 19, was illegally driving the ATV west at the intersection of NE 17th Court and NE Second Terrace.

Edwards reportedly reached the intersection at the same time as a Mercury Sable that was coming from the north. The driver of the vehicle didn’t see the ATV and continued driving. Edwards swerved left to avoid crashing into a vehicle, but the abrupt change of direction threw him and Griffin, 19, off the ATV.

Investigators believe the teenagers’ bodies struck the vehicle as they fell. They were taken to Broward Health North where Griffin was pronounced dead. Edwards sustained non-life threatening wounds. The driver of the Mercury Sable remained at the scene and aided police with the investigation.

The sheriff’s office told news sources that excessive speed, mechanical malfunction, driver impairment, and environmental conditions are not considered to be contributing factors in the accident. No one has been charged as the investigation continues.

Jerron-Pratt-300x231Another accident involving an ATV was reported in Broward on Wednesday morning. Jerron Pratt, who owns a lawn service company in Lauderhill, was severely injured after colliding with a BSO fire rescue vehicle while driving a ATV.

Pratt, 31, was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition. His brother, Jorrico Pratt, told the press that Pratt suffered internal injuries and is going to require surgery. Jorrico Pratt also said that the ATV is not “street legal.”

The fire rescue truck that Pratt crashed into was reportedly racing with lights and sirens on to an emergency call at the Cambridge Park Apartments. According to a witness, the emergency vehicle approached an intersection and slowed down, then Pratt appeared “out of nowhere” and crashed into it.

The rescue workers in the truck were not injured. They began treating Pratt immediately and two of them reportedly joined the ambulance crew that took him to the hospital.
