Brandi Leigh Begerow of Hialeah, Florida, Arrested for Grand Theft and Burglary

Brandi-Leigh-Begerow-300x169Brandi Leigh Begerow of Hialeah, Florida was arrested on February 7 for allegedly stealing a gun, cash, and other belongings from Mark Taiclet on January 30.

Begerow, 33, is an Uber driver who reportedly picked up Taiclet, 48, from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and drove him to his home in Plantation. She faces charges for armed burglary and grand theft of a firearm and is being held without bond at Broward County Jail. It is unclear if she has acquired legal representation.

According to the police report, Taiclet hired a car using the ride-sharing service Uber on January 30 to take him from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to his home in Plantation. Taiclet told police that the believes the driver who picked him up drugged him, but investigators say they have no proof that happened.

A home surveillance video released by police on Thursday reportedly shows Taiclet shaking hands with a woman outside his house at 2:25 a.m. The woman then waits outside while he opens his garage door and takes out his two bags from the car. Taiclet appears unsteady and the video shows the woman following him inside. She purportedly spent four hours in Taiclet’s home and carried several items from the home into her car before driving off.

When Taiclet woke up the next day, he learned that he was missing a handgun, a digital camera, a safe, and a wallet with cash. The collective value of all the items is reportedly $1,660. Police believe the woman in the video is Begerow. An email Taiclet received from Uber reportedly shows that a driver named Brandi picked him up from the airport.

An Uber spokesperson told news sources that the company takes reports of criminal allegations very seriously. Driver applicants are usually screened and their social security number and driver’s license are compared to local, state and federal criminal databases, sex offender registries, court records, terrorist watch lists and other sources.

Uber has reportedly removed Begerow’s access to the app and she won’t be allowed to use the service in the future. The company is working with police to provide them with information needed to assist with their investigation.
