Derek Myers of West Boynton, Florida Arrested for DUI, Hit-and-Run, Child Neglect, and Resisting Arrest

Derek MyersDerek Myers of West Boynton, Florida was arrested last Friday for allegedly crashing his car while under the influence with an unsecured 3-year-old passenger in the front seat. Myers purportedly fought and resisted deputies until he was forcibly subdued. He was booked into Palm Beach County Jail and is being held in lieu of $4,000 bond. It is unclear whether Myers has hired legal representation.

According to the arrest report filed at the Palm Beach County Sherriff’s Office, the car crash occurred on Friday 25 at around 1 p.m. on East Sandpiper Drive in West Boynton. Myers, 32, was driving his car with a 3-year-old passenger. The three-year-old boy, who has not been identified as Myers’ son by news sources,was in the front-passenger seat unsecured by a seat belt, sources say.

Myers allegedly crashed into a palm tree and ran over a fire hydrant. He then allegedly backed up and crashed into another palm tree.Eyewitnesses claim to have heard the child crying as he slipped forward and hit his face on the vehicle’s dashboard during the crash. The report says the boy suffered a bloody mouth in the accident.

Witnesses told police that Myers parked his car in a driveway near his apartment once he managed to control his vehicle. One of the witnesses reportedly watched the child until authorities arrived.

Deputies who arrived on the scene reportedly found Myers sitting in a garage. Myers was reportedly disoriented and appeared to be drunk. Deputies claim he had the odor of alcohol on his person, but when questioned, he denied crashing the car.

Myers was allegedly being “loud and obnoxious” in response to questions he was asked by authorities. Myers purportedly resisted the deputies’ attempts to arrest him and had a taser used on him as a result. He later consented to a blood test to check his blood alcohol content, but the results are pending.

Myers faces charges for child neglect, DUI, hit-and-run, and resisting arrest. News sources did not specify a date for Myers’ first court session.
