Daniel Rush, a police officer from Coconut Creek, Florida was arrested last Thursday for allegedly sexually assaulting two teenage boys. He faces two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation and one count of sexual assault on a minor. Rush, 26, is being held without bail in Broward County Jail. It is unclear whether Rush has acquired the services of a lawyer.
Rush is one of the founders of a youth mentoring organization called Men of Virtue & Ethics, which helps young men better their lifestyle through character building, mentoring, and the development of various skills. Broward Sheriff’s Office did not specify if the two boys who claim to have been molested by Rush are members of his mentoring organization.
Police are concerned there may be more victims from Men of Virtue & Ethics who have yet to come forward. The mentoring organization is associated with several churches in the area. The first boy to come forward was actually discovered through a church. The child passed a note with allegations against Rush to another church member during a service last Sunday, sources indicate.
The church member who received the note immediately informed Broward Sheriff’s Office. Over the course of the ensuing police investigation, a second boy came forward with allegations that Rush fondled him, sources say. According to the police report, Rush admitted that he was acquainted with both children, but denied their accusations.
Broward Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with a child who may be a victim or anyone with information to call Detective Ann Suter of the Special Victims Unit at 954-321-4240.
Rush is just one Broward County area resident accused of sexually molesting a minor this month. A few weeks ago, Alphonso Hayes of Hollywood, Florida was arrested and faces similar charges after allegedly molesting a child on the night of March 26.
According to the arrest report, the 60-year-old was allegedly staying at the victim’s home when the incident happened. The victim claims Hayes came into the room she shared with other children and asked the other children to move to another bed.
Hayes then purportedly got into bed with the victim, took off her clothes, fondled her, and forced her to touch him. The arrest report states that the sexual encounter ended when the girl’s parent returned home. After being questioned by detectives, the girl claimed Hayes offered her $1 to keep quiet about the incident.
