Paul Miller of Davie, Florida and David Tier of Fort Lauderdale were arrested recently in connection with the nude photographing and prostitution 15-year-old girl, news sources report. Miller, a 54-year-old professional photographer, allegedly took naked pictures of the teen without confirming that she was an adult; Tier, 45, allegedly had sex with the girl and acted as her pimp, posting an ad online and arranging meeting with various johns. The pair was booked into the Broward County Main Jail on charges of child porn possession and production. Tier was held in lieu of a $250,000 surety bond, but a judge ordered Miller to be held without bail. The press did not specify lawyers for the defendants.
Reports say Miller is a professional photographer and the former owner of Paul Miller Productions, a photography studio with emphasis on glamorous nude photos. Miller had some of his previous work published in men’s magazines, sources say. It is not clear whether the charges will affect Miller’s ability to continue working as a photographer. No information on Tier’s profession is currently available.
According to reports, the victim in this case was a runaway from South Florida whose name has not been publicly released. The victim purportedly claims that an unidentified woman at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino first told her she could work as a prostitute for Tier.
The victim then accompanied Tier to America’s Best Inn in Fort Lauderdale, where she consumed alcohol and smoked marijuana, sources indicate. She applied for the escort position, offered a fake name and claiming she was 19. Tier allegedly told the girl that he would have to “try her out” and had sexual intercourse with her before taking her to Miller’s studio for a nude photo shoot.
The victim allegedly said Miller took the nude pictures at his home, in a room set up with fancy photography equipment and red carpets. Tier was allegedly present at the shoot as well. A federal public defended apparently said that Miller believed the girl was 18, but had not confirmed this by checking her identification.
Tier apparently used the photos to advertise the girl on an escort website he managed. He allegedly gave her the pseudonym “Courtney.” Clients would pay $160 to for sex; Tier would keep $60 and give the rest to the victim, sources indicate.
Detectives attempted to hire the victim in June as part of a sting operation, sources say. That attempt failed for unspecified reasons. A few weeks later, an anonymous tipster led police to the victim, who was purportedly at a fast-food joint in Parkland.
While talking to police, the victim reportedly said she gave the defendants a fake name and lied about her age, claiming she was a legal adult. At least one detective said the victim was obviously underage. “They wouldn’t have sold her a pack of cigarettes,” the investigator reportedly said.
Miller and Tier were arrested after the girl was recovered by authorities. It is not clear where the teen will be taken or who has custody of her. It is also unclear whether police identified the woman who purportedly recruited the victim at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
