Jessica Marksz of West Palm Beach, Florida was arrested Thursday after she was accused of drunkenly fleeing the scene of an accident on foot, news sources report. Information regarding the other driver’s identity was not immediately available following the incident. Marksz, 35, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on charges of leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence with property damage. She was later released from jail after posting a $3,000 bail bond. The press did not specify a lawyer for Marksz. It is unclear whether the other driver will file for damages.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Thursday in the 200 block of North J Street in Lake Worth. Sources say Marksz turned the wrong way down a one-way street and crashed into another car. Afterwards, she allegedly fled the scene on foot, leaving her vehicle at the crash site.
Officers found Marksz shortly after the crash. Reports say she had walked a nearby Publix Super Market. Officers allegedly found Marksz attempting to purchase a bottle of wine at the store, stumbling slightly and unable to speak clearly. Marksz reportedly said she had come from Igot’s Martiki Bar, where she had consumed around a single pint of Guinness. It is not clear whether a Breathalyzer test was conducted.
It was not immediately clear whether the other driver in the crash was injured or required medical treatment following the incident. An investigation is ongoing.
Wrong way crashes are rare, but result in 360 deaths in the United States every year. Earlier this month, Antonio S. Lopez of Palm Beach County was pronounced dead following a wrong-way collision with Sanuse Cetoue, sources report. Lopez, 33, died at the scene, while Cetoue escaped injury. Police are currently conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, but so far, no charges have been filed.
According to reports, the collision happened around 3 a.m. Saturday on North Federal Highway in Boynton Beach. Lopez was allegedly headed the wrong way down the northbound lanes of North Federal Highway in his 2012 Taiz motor scooter at the time. Cetoue was traveling the right way in the same lane in his 1997 Toyota 4-Runner and did not see Lopez until moments before they collided, sources indicate.
The collision killed Lopez. Police reportedly said Cetoue would not be charged in the accident. It remains to be seen whether alcohol or negligence played a role in the wrong-way crash.

That number was up from the previous year, which had 13,398 reported traffic crashes. There were also 1,123 accidents in which alcohol was a factor in Palm Beach County in 2010, the FLHSMV indicates. It is not clear how many wrong-way crashes the county plays host to annually.
