West Palm Beach, Florida Crash Sends Two Florida Highway Troopers, Paramedic, and Driver to Hospital

A West Palm Beach, Florida three-vehicle crash sent two Florida Highway troopers and a paramedic to the hospital on Sunday, news sources report. Information regarding the victims’ identities was not immediately available following the incident. Police are currently conducting an investigation to determine exactly what went wrong. So far, there have been no charges. It is unclear whether anyone will file for damages>.

According to reports, the incident occurred Sunday evening on Interstate 95, a six-lane expressway that runs along the entire east coast of Florida. A two-vehicle crash occurred on the highway in West Palm Beach, and Florida Highway Patrol officials and paramedics arrived at the scene. The details of that crash were not immediately available at press time; however, officials had to block one lane of traffic following the accident.

Shortly after that lane was closed, reports say another driver attempting to merge into another lane lost control of his vehicle and crashed into three other cars. Two FHP troopers were injured; one was sitting in his patrol car, while the other was stepping out of his at the time of the crash. Another victim, a paramedic, sustained injuries as well after being hit by debris.

The three injured victims, along with the driver of the crashed vehicle, were taken to an area hospital. All the injuries are not life-threatening, reports say. An update on the victims’ conditions was not immediately available at press time. Reports say the second accident closed four lanes of traffic for several hours.

Unfortunately, accidents of all kinds are common in South Florida. Maleah Nowak of Cape Coral was killed this past week in a freak boating accident involving a tube, sources say. Police are currently conducting an investigation to determine what factors led to the deadly accident; alcohol is believed to have played a role. So far, there have been no charges, though police are still investigating.

According to reports, the incident occurred on the Caloosahatchee River near the State Road 31 bridge. Nowak, 23, was on the 20-foot powerboat, which Joshua Emerson of North Fort Myers was driving. It is unclear whether anyone else was on the boat at the time of the incident. Sources say at least one of the pair had been drinking, and that the boat was going fairly fast.

As the boat passed the bridge, headed east, a tube that was tethered to the boat by a rope flew overboard. The rope holding the tube somehow wrapped around Nowak’s neck and pulled her from the ship. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife, Nowak died of her injuries at the scene of the accident. No one else appears to have been injured.

“I’ve never heard of this exact situation happening,” an FWC spokesperson said. “However, wind can be a problem on any vessel, whether it be a sailboat, or a power boat, and that’s something people need to consider before they go racing off.”

The victim’s boat was taken to the Sweet Water Landing during a police investigation. So far, no charges have been filed.
