Paige Marie Johnson and Casey Lawrence Horton of Wilton Manors, Florida were arrested Friday after they were accused of stealing and selling pet medications, news sources report. Johnson, 20, and Horton, 25, were booked into the Broward County Main Jail on six counts of grand theft and six counts of burglary. A judge ordered that they each be held in lieu of $6,500 bail bond. The press did not specify an attorney for either of the defendants.
According to reports, Johnson worked for Arbor Pet Hospital on Northeast 26th Street in Wilton Manors for around three years. She and the management at the clinic apparently had a disagreement in May, and Johnson stopped working for the clinic then. So far, Arbor Pet Hospital has remained mum regarding the allegations. According to reports, a locksmith told reporters he had changed the locks at the clinic since the allegations surfaced.
Johnson allegedly had the employee entrance key for the clinic copied before returning it. Reports say Johnson used this duplicate key to enter the clinic after hours as many as six times. During those illegal visits, Johnson stole pet medications from the animal hospital, sources say. It is not clear exactly what sorts of medications she is accused of taking.
After obtaining the drugs, Johnson’s boyfriend, Horton, allegedly assisted Johnson in selling the drugs on Craigslist. An undercover detective with the Broward County Drug Task Force purchased canine pills of Horton at least twice, reports say. Johnson purportedly stole around $40,000 worth of pet medication from the animal hospital. It was not immediately clear at press time how much of those medications had been sold and/or recovered during the investigation.
In other news, Barbara Erol Rosa of West Palm Beach was arrested Thursday after she allegedly violated an open container law, then threatened police officers, reports say. Rosa, 35, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on charges of municipal ordinance violation, threatening a public servant, and battery on an officer. She is being held on a $10,000 bail bond. It is not yet known whether she has hired legal representation.
According to reports, Rosa was apprehended at around 11:17 Thursday evening outside of a car wash. Two patrol officers allegedly spotted Rosa sitting on a bench outside of the facility with an open bottle of gin. The officers reportedly arrested Rosa for a violation of the city’s open container regulation, which restricts residents from having open bottles of alcohol in public.
After Rosa was put in handcuffs and escorted into a police cruiser, she allegedly became angry. Rosa claimed that she intended to borrow her uncle’s gun in order to kill the officers, reports say. Upon arrival at the station, one of the officers brought Rosa into the booking area and had her take a seat; as the officer turned, Rosa allegedly kicked him in the rump. The alleged kick upgraded Rosa’s charge from an ordinance violation to charges of battery and threatening a public servant. It was not immediately clear at press time whether this was Rosa’s first arrest.
