Victor Gutierez of West Palm Beach, Florida allegedly struck a bicyclist Monday and fled the scene, news sources report. Information regarding the victim’s identity was not immediately available; sources say he died at the scene of the accident. Gutierez, 30, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on charges of leaving the scene of a crash causing death, DUI manslaughter, and not having a valid driver’s license. It is unclear whether he qualified for bail bond. The press did not specify a defense attorney for Gutierez.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 3:00 Monday morning on Kirk Road near the corner of Selberg Lane. Kirk Road is a small, two-lane suburban road. Gutierez and the bicyclist were both northbound on the road, with the bicyclist was ahead of Gutierez’s truck, reports say.
Gutierez allegedly approached and struck the bicyclist from behind. The force of the collision knocked the victim off of his bicycle and threw him onto the other side of the road. Reports say the bicyclist died at the scene.
Gutierez left the scene following the crash and proceeded down Lake Worth Road, sources indicate. A witness to the accident gave police a description of Gutierez’s 1999 Ford truck. Meanwhile, an officer on Lake Worth Road reportedly saw Gutierez driving erratically and pulled him over. Reports say the officer noticed that Gutierez was under the influence and did not possess a valid license, so the officer placed him under arrest. It is not clear when police realized Gutierez may have been involved in the hit-and-run.
Detectives have not yet been able to identify the victim and are asking for the public’s help. The victim was described as in his late teens to early twenties, 5’9,” 173 pounds, and Hispanic.
In other news, Sergio Dorado was arrested Thursday after he was involved in two hit-and-run collisions with two different police vehicles, reports say. Dorado, 47, is expected to be charged with aggravated assault against an officer after he is released from the hospital. It is not yet known whether he has hired legal representation.
Sources say Dorado has history of run-ins with the law in the Miami area. Last week, he was arrested on a charge of battery, sources say. He also has a previous arrest for aggravated assault against an officer, of which he was reportedly found guilty. However, the details of those cases were not immediately available at press time.
According to reports, the first accident occurred at the intersection of Bunche Park Drive and Northwest 22nd Avenue in Opa-locka. Sources say Dorado’s truck collided with a car; Dorado reportedly hit his head against his windshield in the crash. Reports say Dorado exited his vehicle after the collision and bent his license plate in an attempt to hide the numbers. An officer at the scene got out of her cruiser to apprehend him, but he got back into his truck, collided with the officer’s vehicle, and fled the scene, according to reports.
Dorado soon arrived at Northwest 156th Street and Northwest 22nd Avenue, where he collided with an unmarked police car, reports say. He allegedly again fled the scene. Officers eventually caught up with Dorado at Northwest 160th Street and Northwest 18th Court in Miami Gardens, where they cornered him and removed him from his vehicle.
