Miami, Florida Airplane Crash Sends Four People to the Hospital

A Miami, Florida airplane crash sent four people to the hospital on Sunday after the aircraft’s engine failed, news sources report. The small aircraft crashed in the waters of Biscayne Bay. Information regarding the victims’ identities was not immediately available following the accident. They were each taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Police are currently conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash; it is not yet known whether a manufacturing defect may have played a part.

According to reports, the accident occurred sometime Sunday afternoon as the Cessna airplane flew over the waters of South Florida, two miles off the coast of Key Largo. Reports say there were four people inside the airplane, which was en route to Key West from Hollywood. Police say the airplane’s rear engine lost power, causing the aircraft to fall from the sky and crash into the waters of Biscayne Bay near Homestead Park.

Paramedics arrived on the scene and took the airplane’s four occupants to a nearby hospital. Luckily, the victims sustained only minor injuries. Police are currently conducting an investigation to determine why the plane’s engine failed. The vehicle’s owner could be held responsible if he or she did not inspect the equipment regularly; the Federal Aviation Part 121 Regulation requires aviators to maintain exceptionally good care of their aviation equipment. Conversely, the engine manufacturer could be at fault of the failure was due to a manufacturing error.

One person was injured in a plane crash in Martin County earlier this month as well, reports say. Three people were in the airplane when it crashed near a highway at Pine Ridge Plantation. One person was taken to the hospital; that victim sustained minor injuries. It is currently unclear what conditions led to the crash.

According to reports, the crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. on February 18. For reasons not yet known, a single-engine Cessna carrying three people crashed along Martin Highway at Pine Ridge Plantation. Paramedics arrived and took one victim to a nearby hospital with minor injuries; no one else was hurt in the crash. Detectives are currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

In other accident-related news, Christopher Zaheer Ali ran over Rogelio Zepeda-Hernandez in a Lake Worth accident Sunday, reports say. Hernandez, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene. Ali, 23, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police are currently conducting an investigation; at this point, it appears Hernandez, the pedestrian, may have been at fault in the crash.

According to reports, the accident occurred around 7:00 Sunday evening on Lake Worth Road in suburban Lake Worth. Hernandez was crossing the road from the south to north side, but was not using a crosswalk. Ali was on the road in his 2012 Honda when he ran into Hernandez, a Greenacres Public Safety crash report says. Paramedics arrived on the scene and found Hernandez lying in the street; he was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation is ongoing, though police have not determined whether they will press charges.
