Jong Chull Lee of Fort Lauderdale, Florida was arrested Friday for allegedly operating an unlicensed dentistry operation out of his home, news sources indicate. A patient reported the unlicensed operation after he experienced complications following a procedure there. Authorities say they are also looking for another suspect who allegedly helped Lee with the illegal clinic. Lee, 57, was booked into police custody on charges of practicing dentistry without a license and operating a non-registered dental laboratory. It is unclear whether he qualified for bail bond or if he has hired an attorney.
According to reports, Lee ran a dental clinic out of his Fort Lauderdale home for some time; authorities have not indicated how long they believe the clinic was in operation. Lee allegedly treated and operated on patients without a valid license to do so. It is not clear whether he has any official dental experience.
On Tuesday, one of Lee’s purported patients, identified publicly only as a man with a walker, arrived at Lee’s home on Northeast 62nd Street to confront Lee. Reports say the victim had undergone an operation at the home and had later experienced complications. He showed up on Tuesday to request a refund. When the victim confronted Lee and an unidentified conspirator, sources say the two suspects became upset. After some sort of scuffle, the victim’s walker failed and he fell to the ground. Both suspects then left the scene on foot.
Police arrived shortly after and took the victim’s statement in regards to the alleged operation. An investigation of Lee’s dental records revealed that Lee did not have a license to practice dentistry in Florida and was not registered to run a dental laboratory from his home. Detectives arrested Lee on Friday and are still searching for the unnamed conspirator. Investigators say that more victims may come forward as the investigation continues and the case garners press.
