Thomas Rocks of Pompano Beach, Florida was injured in a motorcycle accident when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle on West Sample Road, news sources indicate. Rocks, 45, was taken to the Broward Health North Hospital with head injuries. He has since been arrested on two counts of DUI with damage to property or injury to a person and driving with a suspended license. A $22,500 bail bond was set in the case. It is unclear whether he has hired an attorney
Reports indicate that this is not Rocks’ first alleged DUI offense. Between 1998 and 2006, police in both Martin and Broward County charged Rocks with three separate DUI offenses; however, the details of those cases remain unclear. Reports also say authorities once charged Rocks with one count of driving with a revoked license.
In this latest incident, Rocks was traveling westbound along the 2900 block of West Sample Road in Pompano Beach on his 1984 Honda motorcycle. Rocks allegedly collided with a Ford Escort, whose driver reports did not identify, that was also traveling west along the road. It is unclear if the accident injured the driver of the Escort, but Rocks sustained a head injury and multiple lacerations in the crash.
When paramedics arrived at the scene, they transported Rocks to the Broward Health North hospital. Physicians discovered that Rocks had a concussion; they also took a sample of Rocks’ blood to determine whether he had consumed alcohol prior to the crash. According to reports, the results of Rocks’ blood test showed that his blood alcohol was between .254 and .255, well above the 0.08 limit. Reports also say the crash caused $5,000 in damages to the victim’s Ford Escort.
In other news, Robert Thacker, a Lake Mary, Florida construction worker, was injured Wednesday when a driver veered into a marked work zone and crashed into him, reports say. Thacker, 52, was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. He has since been listed as in stable condition. The driver who hit Thacker has not been identified, as he or she fled the scene of the accident. The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident. So far, no charges have been pressed, but authorities are searching for the driver, who is believed to have been driving a white truck. The truck likely sustained some damage in the crash.
Reports say the accident occurred around 6:00 Wednesday evening at a marked work zone on State Road 408. One lane of the roadway was closed for construction. Witnesses reported seeing what appeared to be a white truck veer into the closed lane, where it struck Thacker. It is not yet clear what caused the driver to swerve. Authorities have not indicated whether they suspect that the driver was under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance during the crash.
Reports say the driver of the vehicle did not stop. Paramedics rushed Thacker to the Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Whether he will be able to go back to work on the construction project soon is uncertain.
