Talae Thomas of Plant City, Florida Arrested for Aggravated Child Abuse

Talae Thomas of Plant City, Florida was arrested Thursday after she was accused of drowning her 5-week old child, who she later claimed was possessed by the devil, news sources indicate. Thomas, 30, was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on charges of aggravated child abuse and first-degree murder. She is being held without bail bond. It is not yet known whether Thomas has hired an attorney.

Reports say Thomas reportedly went through a mental breakdown several years ago and often has bouts of delusions. It is unclear whether she has been treated for this condition, if she takes medication to control it, or if she had ever done anything violent or dangerous due to the condition before this particular incident.

According to reports, Thomas gave birth to a baby boy 5 weeks prior to the alleged drowning. The boy, a 5-week-old named Harrison, was sent home with Thomas following the birth. Reports did not indicate whether Thomas lives alone, with family, or a partner. It does not appear as though anyone had any concerns about the child living with his mother.

On November 15, police officer in Hillsborough County responded to a report around of a woman, who was later identified as Thomas, lying in the median of a road. The officers approached Thomas, who explained that her pregnancy had gone awry and the baby had died, reports say. She reportedly told the officers that she was still affected by the loss and needed medical attention. The officers transported her to a nearby hospital in response.

Afterwards, the officers responded to Thomas’s home. According to reports, the officers found the home’s front door slightly ajar and walked inside. The performed a search and the home appeared to be empty. However, when they entered the bathroom, they found a slightly filled bathtub with the body of a young infant floating inside.

The officer then returned to the hospital and asked Thomas about the deceased infant. “My baby died five weeks ago in the hospital.” Thomas reportedly said. “I brought the devil home,” she purportedly explained, referring to the child. She then said that her baby “died in the hospital after they [the doctors] did CPR on him.” Reports also suggest that she admitted to drowning the boy. Medical examiners concluded that the infant had, in fact, drowned.

Thomas was not the only Florida woman accused of child abuse recently. Princess Lowe of Palm Beach County, Florida was arrested Saturday after she was accused of striking a boy with a belt as a form of discipline, reports say. Lowe, 28, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on charges aggravated child abuse. It is unclear whether she qualified for bail or hired legal representation.

Reports say the incident occurred while the 6-year-old victim was staying with Lowe at her home. According to reports, Lowe struck the child after she noticed scratches on her vehicle that she believed he caused. However, the boy later claimed Lowe’s son scratched the vehicle. As discipline, Lowe reportedly struck the child with a belt a number of times.
