Alfonso Demmay of Fort Lauderdale, Florida Arrested for Marijuana Cultivation

Alfonso Demmay of Fort Lauderdale, Florida was arrested Wednesday after authorities reportedly found as many as 94 marijuana plants growing in his home, news sources indicate. Demmay, 34, was booked into the Broward County Jail on charges of distributing and cultivating marijuana. It is unclear if a bail bond was set. It is also not yet known whether Demmay has retained a private criminal defense lawyer.

Acting on a tip, officers from the Metro Broward Drug Task Force procured a search warrant for Demmay’s Southwest 15th Street home, reports say. The tipster suggested that Demmay had a marijuana grow room in house. The officers arrived at the home, where Demmay greeted them. Once inside, police say they did not see anything suspicious at first glance. The officers had to remove a faux wall that concealed a room containing the marijuana plants, sources indicate.

Inside the small grow room, police seized around 94 marijuana plants, as well as lighting equipment and devices designed to filter the odors coming from the plants. Police placed a street value of $200,000 to $300,000 on the confiscated plants. The officers stuffed each plant into a brown box and transferred to the station’s evidence locker.

Neighbors on the scene were surprised and said there were no indications that the home was being used as a grow house. One neighbor said cars would often pull up to the house and leave shortly after, but she attributed it to Demmay having a “lot of friends.”

In other news, Rachael Bohbot of Boynton Beach, Florida was arrested Tuesday after she was accused of biting a child’s leg during a game, reports indicate. Her boyfriend is the six-year-old boy’s father. Bohbot, 24, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on one count of child abuse without great bodily harm. Her bail was set at $3,000 and it is unclear whether she has hired legal representation.

Reports say the incident occurred over the weekend while Bohbot, her boyfriend, and his son were staying together. According to the child’s testimony, he and Bohbot were playing a biting game that Bohbot introduced him to. The purported objective of the game was to see who could inflict the hardest bite. The child claimed the prize for winning the game was an accessory for his costume. The boy told police he had failed to win when an alleged bite from Bohbot left a painful contusion on his upper leg.

Later, when the boy returned to his mother’s care, she reportedly noticed the boy wobbling as he walked. That is when she discovered a bruise to his leg, reports say. The child told her that Bohbot had bitten him as part of a game, which prompted the mother to notify the police. Police confronted Bohbot, who initially denied the allegations. Later, she reportedly admitted to giving him a slightly firm bite to his shoulder. After the bite she said the boy began to bawl, so she bought him a Halloween toy. She was unable to account for the bruise on the child’s thigh.
