Peter Andrew Povolny Killed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida Car Accident

Peter Andrew Povolny was killed in a Fort Lauderdale, Florida car accident on Sunday when the driver of the car he was riding in, Cesar Pazo Demoraes, allegedly struck another vehicle while changing lanes. Manuel Perales and Peter Doskey, two other drivers, were also caught up in the accident. No criminal charges have yet been filed pending the completion of an investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. It is not clear whether Demoraes has retained a private criminal defense attorney.

According to news reports, the car accident occurred on Interstate 95 in Fort Lauderdale near Sunrise Boulevard at around 6:30 in the evening. Demoraes, 45, was driving a 199 Isuzu Rodeo carrying passenger Povolny at the time. It is not know now the two know each other. Demoraes allegedly attempted to pass a 2002 Fort Mustang in front of him by driving on the shoulder while traveling down the highway. Demoraes purportedly struck the side of the Mustang (driven by Perales, 30) while attempting the pass. It is not clear how fast the two vehicles were going at the time.

After the failed pass, Demoraes lost control of his vehicle, which rolled onto its’ side. 52-year-old Povolny, who was not wearing a seatbelt, flew through a window and out of the vehicle. The Mustang veered to the left from the impact of the crash and ended up striking a Volvo driven by Doskey, 58.

Following the accident, Demoraes was taken to Broward Medical Center for treatment for serious injuries; he was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. Povolny was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical officials. The two other drivers, Doskey and Perales, were reportedly not hurt in the collision. It is not clear whether either driver had any passengers. The financial repercussions of the accident are not yet known, and none of the parties involved appear to have spoken publicly about the incident.

Authorities shut down a stretch of southbound Interstate 95 for four hours after the crash allow for cleanup, rescue work, and an investigation. The congestion was exacerbated by a second accident in the adjacent northbound lanes of Interstate 95, though the details of said accident remain largely unknown.

Povolny was not the only person killed on Florida’s streets recently. Last Saturday at around 9:00 p.m., Arthur Glickman was killed when his wife accidentally hit a truck during a left turn. No criminal charges have been filed, though the driver of the pickup trick, 33-year-old Ronnie Silva, was injured. It is not clear whether the elderly driver, 78-year-old Helene Glickman, required medical attention following the accident.

According to news sources, Arthur Glickman, 87, was a passenger in Helene’s Mercedes when she attempted a left turn into Shadowwood Square off of Glades Road in Boca Raton. Mrs. Glickman struck a Mazda pickup truck driven by Silva, who was crossing the Shadowwood Square intersection at the time. It is not clear how fast the vehicles were traveling.

After the crash, Arthur Glickman was transported to Delray Medical Center for treatment. He was kept alive for several days, but unfortunately he died of his injuries on Wednesday afternoon. Silva was taken to West Boca Medical Center; it is not clear what injuries he suffered from, and his status is not available.
