Wilta Joseph in Fort Lauderdale, Floirda Car Accident; Nine Injured

Wilta Joseph was in a Fort Lauderdale, Florida car accident on Tuesday that left nine people injured, according to local news reports. Joseph, 28, was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended driver’s license, failing to restrain children in his vehicle, careless driving, and having faulty equipment in the vehicle, sources indicate. It remains unclear whether he has qualified for bail bond or hired a private criminal defense attorney.

News sources indicate that the injured parties in the car accident were included six Dania Beach children (Jaylen Joseph, 4 months; Taraji Joseph, 1; Jayson Joseph, 3; Jakari Joseph, 4; Keyshawn Joseph, 8; and Shamia Joseph, 10). Two adults, 28-year-old Rudy Titus and 24-year-old Pammara Corin Dubuse of Fort Lauderdale, were also injured. It appears as though Joseph was also hurt in the accident.

Five of the children’s injuries were considered traumatic, while another had life-support injuries. The adults were not spared serious injuries either: one reportedly was traumatically injured, and another was on life support. Mercifully, all of the victims of the accident are expected to survive, though it is unclear when the group will be able to leave the hospital. Updates on their statuses were not readily available. It remains to be seen whether any of the injured parties plan on pursuing legal charges against Joseph.

According to the press, the accident ocured at approximatey 4:35 p.m. on Tuesday on a ramp connecting Interstate 95 to westbound Interstate 595. Joseph was driving a 2009 Kia Borrego on the ramp, presumably with the children and adults as passengers, when he allegedly sideswept a Freighliner tractor trailer. The tractor’s driver, 63-year-old Angel Prada, was not reported injured in the accident. Joseph, however, lost control of his vehicle, which struch a concrete barrier and ended up upside down. It is not entirely clear where Joseph was headed with his large number of passengers.

Florida Highway Patrol officlals reportedly closed down the ramp to allow for cleanup and an investigation. The ramp was re-opened at about 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the state, a Manatee woman was arrested after she allegedly drunkenly crashed her car into a gas station, according to news reports. 50-year-old Mitzi Arlene Levins was apprenededand booked into Manatee County Jail on Monday evening and charged with DUI property damage. She was later granted $2,000 bond. It remains unclear whether she has retained an attorney.

Sources indicate that Levins was charged after an inident at a Mobil gas station located at the intersection of 34th Street West and 53rd Avenue West in Manatee, Florida. At approximately 7:08 p.m. on Monday, Levins filled her car with gas and chatted with two other patrons, who later alleged that her breath smelled of alcohol and that she could not speak properly. Mitzi then allegedly started her vehicle and attempted to drive off, only to crash into the gas station’s store. She appears to have cooperated with officers during her arrest, although it is not known whether she submitted to a breathalyzer test.
