Juan Hernandez and Jose Santiago were involved in a Wellington, Florida car accident on Saturday that resulted in Santiago’s death, according to news reports. Santiago, 32, was reportedly pronounced dead on the scene, while it is not clear whether Hernandez, 27, sustained any injuries. No charges have yet been filed as investigators work to determine the cause of the accident.
According to news reports, the combination car and motorcycle accident occurred at the corner of Carlton Street and Greenview Shores on Saturday at approximately 6:00 in the morning. Sources indicate that investigators do not suspect the involvement of drugs or alcohol in the crash. At the time of the crash, Santiago, who was riding a motorcycle, was reportedly wearing a helmet.
Press sources report that Santiago was headed southbound on Greenview Shores o his 1007 Honda motorcycle, traveling at what was described as a ‘high reate of speed,’ just before the collision. Hernandez was reportedly driving westbound on Carlton Street, attempting to turn left onto Greenview Shores, when he crossed in front of Santiago. It is not clear whether Santiago had a stop sign. Hernandez reportedly did, and it appears as though he stopped as is legally required before proceeding into the intersection.
In any case, Santiago’s motorcycle hit the passenger’s side of the pickup truck. The force of the crash reportedly threw Santiago to the ground. He was apparently pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by emergency medical workers. It is not clear whether Hernandez was hurt or required hospitalization following the accident. It does not appear as though he has spoken to the press about the incident.
Unfortunately, deaths due to car accidents are fairly common in Florida. Another deadly accident last week in Orlando, Florida took the lives of an unnamed man and his 10-year-old son and critically injured his other 7-year-old son, according to news reports. Sources indicate that the two-vehicle accident took place last week SR-520 near Taylor Creek Road, located in East Orange County, Florida.
According to press sources, the father, who was driving a sedan, cut an ice cream delivery truck off on the road. The truck and car then collided. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and the driver of the ice cream truck is believed to be physically unharmed.
Reports do not mention whether the father and the 10-year-old were transported to the hospital following the accident; the 7-year-old was reportedly taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition. It is not clear what his current status is. None of the names of the victims have yet been released to the public.
Sources indicate that the family was on their way home from a cruse, which they had gone on with the father’s girlfriend and her children. The girlfriend and her children were reportedly traveling in a separate vehicle and were unharmed in the accident. The woman, who has not been identified by name, was reportedly present on the scene of the accident.
Both families are reportedly from Alabama, where the mother of the 10-year-old and 7-year-old lives. She has reportedly been informed of the accident.
